The nurse begins to unplug the machines. One by one, she takes them out. As she is doing this, no one can hold back their tears. They are all so upset that this is happening. They couldn't believe that this was happening. As she continued, all they could do was stare at every move she made. Eddie was probably the most upset. He was hysterical. No one could stop crying. None of them were ready for this. The nurse went to unhook the ventilator from the machine. Eddie was holding Loren's hand so tight. He didn't want to let her go. It was too early. He had just got her back. It wasn't fair.
Eddie: Once you unhook that, and take it out of her mouth, she'll take her last breath? And that'll be it?
Nurse: Yes.
Eddie: Ok. Can you hold off of that for a minute? She's still alive right now. I wanna have just 5 seconds with her still alive
Nurse: Ok. Take as much time as you need.
Eddie spent four seconds holding Loren's hand tighter then he's ever held it, feeling her pulse. It was still beating. The last second, he kissed her hand. Eddie kept his hand on Loren's wrist, where he could feel her pulse. He knew that this was the last time.
Eddie: Ok. I'm ready.
Nurse: Ok. I'm going to begin again now
The nurse then unhooked the ventilator from the machine, and then took it out of Loren's mouth. She took out the final tube that was in Loren's mouth. Milliseconds went by, and Loren took her last breathe. Or so everyone thought. After Loren took her "last breathe", she took another one. And another one. And another one. The monitor never hit a flat line. It started beating at a normal pace again. As Eddie was holding her hand, waiting for there to be no more pulse, her pulse sped up to a normal speed.
