EVEN FROM TABLES AWAY he could hear her laughter, bright and so deliciously beautiful, over the sound of the chatter. He couldn't help it as his eyes wandered over the couples taking pictures of their drinks, the students who were cramming as much information as they could the day before their exams, and those, like him, who simply just came to think.
He'd never liked brown eyes as much as he did on her. She had the kind of eyes that you could get lost in. It was comforting and enticing all at once. He took his time admiring her, stealing glances while sipping his coffee. And when she stood up to leave with her friends, the memory of her burned into the back of his mind. She turned into wisps of wind and smoke that would fade away into the sky like ghosts floating up into space and beyond.
And when he saw her again, he felt his heart soaring. This time, she was alone. Picking up his courage, he forced himself to walk over to where she was sitting with headphones in her ears and staring at the cup of coffee in front of her. When her eyes settled on Yoongi, a mischievous smile spread across her face. She took the earphones out of her ears and looked up at him expectantly.
"I- I know we've never met and all, but would you want to get coffee or something?" He stumbled on his words.
"I'm drinking coffee." She gestured to the cup in front of her something and Yoongi felt crushed by the rejection.
Gulping, he tried to play cool. "Oh-"
"What exactly does that 'or something' entail?" She cocked her head to the side, smiling at him in a way that was absolutely infectious. He couldn't help the curve of his lips as his happiness soared.
"You'll find out if you say yes."
"Are we going to be staring at other people in the cafe for an unhealthy time period?" She asked him teasingly.
Fuck. She knew.
"That- I- I'm sorry, you just looked beautiful and I couldn't-" He struggled to find the right words. The flush that creeped up his neck made it obvious that he was embarrassed.
Catching on, she quickly intervened. "Chill. I thought it was cute. You're cute." She had no filter on her words and he would come to love that. The way that she told him everything with nothing but truth would grow on him.
She gestured to the seat in front of him, and wasting no time, Yoongi sat facing her.
"I expected this to go differently." He admitted, bringing his attention to the little things about her that he couldn't see from so far away. Like the mole beside her right eye. Or how a strand of her hair kept falling over her eyes and she would push it back every single time.
"What did you expect?"
"You swooning over me." He said arrogantly, leaning back. He made it obvious that it was a joke and was relieved to hear a short laugh escape her lips.
With a teasing glint in her eyes, she replied, "Yeah, that went out the window when you stuttered on the first sentence."
"Give a guy a break! I was nervous."
As conversation ensued, he found himself becoming more and more enamored with the woman sitting in front of him. They seemed to have known each other for a long time but at the same time, no more than a brief moment.
And it would be months before the two of them finally came to terms with their feelings. The both of them too arrogant to realize that they had fallen hopelessly and completely for each other. It would take longer for them to call that love.
The way that her eyelashes would brush against his cheek would never fail to make him smile. Their fingers were always intertwined, palms pressed firmly against each other to combat the cold bite of winter. Truthfully, the feeling they shared between them didn't have to be named. They knew it was there and it was powerful, and calling it love was merely an understatement.
