"Damian doesn't remember me. "
And there's a resounding gasp because; WHAT?
Because to everyone who had ever met them, Raven and Damian had always been Raven and Damian.
They'd always been something, though no one knew what that something was. Though the two barely talked to each other in public anyone could tell that they were close. And as has been previously stated; the team wasn't stupid. They may not know how exactly to define Raven and Damian but they sure as hell know that there's something there that's worth defining. So with all this, the words 'Damian can't remember Raven' don't really compute.
"What do you MEAN he doesn't remember you?! How can he NOT remember you?!" Gar exclaims, which was really the worst thing he could have said because she looks heartbroken for a few split seconds before shutting down completely. She turns to glare at her green skinned teammate.
"I don't know!" she snaps.
"He just doesn't. Not as a person. He knows I exist, I'm there in his memories but he doesn't KNOW me, doesn't REMEMBER me...not like he should," And the last part is a quiet whisper, like she hadn't meant to say it but it had just slipped out. And everyone lets this information sink in. Then finally Jaime dares to ask, "So how do we fix it?"
"You can't" she says, her voice sharp. She looks away, because she knows she's taking out her volatile and confusing emotions on her friends, and in some corner of her mind she feels guilty but for the most part she just can't be bothered to care right now. She's still looking away from them when she continues. "I might be able to.... If his memories are displaced somewhere in his mind I can find them and draw them out. But to do that without hurting him I need him to trust me. To willingly open up his mind to mine. Which will be difficult because Damian wasn't exactly that comfortable with this psychic stuff before..." she's going to say 'our bond' but stops herself. She looks up at Kori as the alien princess puts a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"You'll get his trust Raven; you'll be able to fix this." She says, and her voice is kind.
But the thing is that there is a chance that Damians memory of her could be unsalvageable, and the thought breaks her heart. Because getting Damian to open up to her again will be hard, especially without the circumstances that they'd originally gone through.
But no matter hard it was she'd do it, she'd made him fall in love with her once and she'd do it again. She'd do it a thousand times over no matter how much it hurt because Damian Wayne was worth it. He was worth all the tears, and heartbreak and pain that she was willing to endure for him. She can repair her relationship with Damian, it'll never be what it was before but she prefers that to not having him at all. He's still her Damian, the man she loves and she'll win him back.
She draws strength from these thoughts and gives Kori a small smile. "I will," she says, her voice coming out a whisper. "But first I need to make sure that something like this won't happen again. I've spent years making sure my father couldn't escape through me, but I ignored all his other options."
"What will you do?" Bart asks. Raven shrugs. "I guess I'll start with going to see Dr. Fate and a few others and I'll make it up from there," She'll be away for a week or two, and maybe that's good. Because while she will try to reform her bond with Damian she needs time. She needs time to sort through her feelings and get over the grief of having her soul mate forget her.
So Raven isn't at the tower for a whole week since the incident, which means that she'd managed to put off dealing with the whole thing for a week. Focusing instead on her father issues. And after many layers of spells and locks she finally has Dr. Fate offer to keep the shard. (And after much moral conflict on dumping her burden on him, she agrees. Because she's had more than enough of that stupid gem and after exhausting her magic for a week she's confident that her father will never escape.) And the moment she leaves Fate's home she's overwhelmed with a sense of relief the feeling of having the burden of constantly watching Satan removed from her shoulders.
And now she's ready to go back home.
To him.
She thinks, when she leaves that she's ready to start again.
But now she's at Titians tower and she realizes how wrong she was...
