Period 1: American History

Period 3: Biology

Period 6: Writing
Period 7: Calculus
Period 8: LiteratureWe only had one class together, which sucked. After what happened with Andrea, I needed her support. "Do you think we should go to the office and see if we could get a tour?" I asked. Vienna shook her head. "That won't be necessary." Two people were walking towards us. One was a short girl with dark hair. The other was a tall boy with blonde hair. They both wore sunglasses. They stopped in front of us. "I'm Julianna," The girl said. "This is Edward. We're going to be showing you to your classes." Her voice had a bossy tone to it. "You're Luke," she said to me. It wasn't a question, but a statement. "I'll take you to your first period class. Edward will take Vienna. What's your first hour?" "Calculus," I said. Julianna grabbed my arm and began dragging me away. I glanced back at Vienna. She simply shrugged, and followed Edward.
Jacob Portman, the neighbor, was in my calculus class. He waved to me and patted the seat next to him. I went to go sit down. Julianna sat next to me. "Hey," Jacob said. "Hi," I said. "I'm Luke Blitz, Vienna's cousin." Jacob nodded. "She told me. She also called you her permanent best friend."
That made me smile.
The bell rang. The lesson was something I had already learned at one of my other schools. Halfway through it, Jacob started taking deeper breaths. "You okay?" I asked. He nodded. "Just a stomach ache." "Are you sick?" I asked. "No, it's... I just sometimes get this twisted feeling in my gut, like... never mind."
The bell rang. Jacob hurried off. Julianna grabbed my arm and dragged me off. I immediately knew something was up, because she didn't ask me what my next class was.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
No reply. She shoved me into an empty classroom. By empty, I don't mean there was nobody in it; I mean there was nothing in it. Julianna slammed me up against the wall, her forearm across my throat. For such a small person, she was surprisingly strong.
"What's your peculiarity?" She hissed.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"Your peculiarity, you idiot. Your cousin has one. You must have one, too."
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Well, then. We'll have to do this the hard way."
Julianna whipped out a knife, pressed the blade to my throat just hard enough so that a single bead of blood appeared there.
"I'm a wight. Tell me what you know about Vienna's peculiarity. Edward and I saw it in person."
"You will not touch Vienna." That was my one demand.
"How did she make that invisible boy appear?"
"I don't know. He was there one minute, gone the next."
"Fine. She'll know. If you don't tell me, we'll torture it out of Vienna."
A spark of electricity shot through my body. The next thing I knew, there was an explosion, and Julianna lay on the ground.
I ran over and checked her pulse.
Dead.
The back wall of the classroom was completely blown out. The door swung open. A lady stood there. Seeing me among the mess, she fainted. I was perfectly unharmed, but that spark was still sending waves of electricity through my veins.
I looked up, and I noticed the lights were broken.
Peculiarity.
We'll torture it out of Vienna.
Vienna.
Where was she?
I started sprinting through the halls. People were running around screaming, and I could see why. There was a group of people armed with weapons in one of the hallways. The strange thing was, they all had no pupils.
Teachers were trying to get kids out the door.
That's when I saw Jacob Portman fighting this giant shadow thing with a pocketknife. Next to him, a blonde girl was shooting fire at them from her hands. A bunch of clay soldiers were hacking at the pupil-less people's ankles with silverware on their own. There was a well dressed boy running away from one of the shadow creatures. All of the sudden, a gigantic swarm of bees began attacking it.
The pupil-less people were trying to attack Fiona Fraunfield from the airport, but plants began coming through the cracks in the floor and wrapping themselves around their ankles. Also, some of them randomly dropped dead by some invisible force.
I recognized some of the people standing around. They were the group from the airport.
All of the sudden, a large chunk of the ceiling came crashing down right above me. A girl pushed me to the side and caught it like it was nothing. "Thanks!" I called. "You're very welcome!" She replied with a grin.
Then I saw Vienna. She was wrestling with Edward, who also had no pupils. All of sudden, an invisible force pushed him off her. She stood up. I ran towards her. "Vienna!" I yelled. She ran to meet me. "Something weird's going on," She said.
Hugh ran up to us.
"We have to get out of here," He said. "Before they catch you." That last part was mostly directed at Vienna.
"Why do they want us?" She asked.
"Because you're one of us. And your peculiarity is very, very rare."
