Clarity skipped through the woods, leading us to the loop where Miss Blue Jay's safe house. Bronwyn was having a conversation with Miss Blue Jay, so I was left to talk with Elliot.
"So," I said, trying in vain to make conversation with the other boy. "What's your peculiarity?"
He muttered something I couldn't hear.
"I'm sorry, what?" I asked.
"I can turn into a shadow. Blend into them, become them, whatever."
"Cool."
I tried to keep the conversation going, but Elliot was set on ignoring me, so eventually I gave up.
We finally reached a cave. "Watch me closely," Miss Blue Jay said. She walked to the edge of the cave, tapped a pattern on the wall, then vanished.
We followed her example.
When we emerged from the cave, the woods looked healthier. "Welcome to the twenties," Clarity cried. "This way to Miss Blue Jay's Home For Peculiar Children!"
We walked for ten more minutes before reaching a gigantic building. There was one room on the bottom floor that was made completely out of windows. A girl with braids sat in a plush chair reading a book. "Come," Miss Blue Jay said. She escorted us inside. "Children!" She called. "We have guests!" A pair of blue eyes peeked around the corner. Slowly, a girl with brown hair walked towards us. She had long eyelashes and couldn't have been more than six. She wore a black flapper dress, and a matching boa was draped across her shoulders. She wasn't wearing any shoes.
When she reached us, she looked up at me. "You're him, aren't you?" She asked. Her voice was small and tight, like she was nervous. "Lukas Blitz? Caul's son?"
I smiled down at her and she cowered away in fear. "That's me. Call me Luke."
Her tone was quieter when she spoke again. "He killed my parents. That's why I came here."
"Miss Southern," Miss Blue Jay sighed. "Luke isn't going to-"
Before she could finished, the girl turned and walked off.
"I'm sorry about her," Miss Blue Jay said. "She's only been here a couple weeks. The other Peculiars, however-" She was interrupted when I heard a crash and a boy's voice yell, "Sorry!"
A boy can running down the stairs. He had messy blonde hair and flushed cheeks. He looked about thirteen. He stuck out his hand. "Hello! I'm Maxan Densmore," He said.
Bronwyn stared at him in shock. "Densmore? I know someone with that last name! Maxan, do you know a Claire?" She asked.
"Yes," Maxan said. "I had a sister named Claire. I do believe she's dead now, sadly. Five years old was too young to die." Bronwyn looked into his eyes. "Maxan. Claire's not dead. Miss Peregrine, our headmistress, found her bloody and broken. Claire told her that she thought her brother was killed during the bombing."
Maxan's tone was serious. "So Claire's alive. You aren't just messing with me."
"Yes."
"Take me to see her."
"Mr. Densmore-" Miss Blue Jay started.
"I'll be fine," Maxan told her. "I just want to see Claire again."
"You could die," The ymbrne said. "It's not safe. Time will catch up to you."
"Actually, there's a way that it won't," Bronwyn pronounced. "I'll show it to you later, Maxan."
Miss Blue Jay sighed. "If you must go, then go, Mr. Densmore."
Maxan grinned in triumph.
"Where's Maxan going?" A voice questioned. We turned to see the girl with braids. Her hair was brown with streaks of gold weaved into it.
"I'm going to find my sister," Maxan told her.
She looked to be fifteen. "Have fun, Maxan," She told him. "And good luck." She turned to Bronwyn and I. "I'm Lee Ann, by the way."
She went back to the book in her hands and walked off.
"That's about it," Maxan said. "Not many of us here. Just Clarity, Elliot, Lee Ann, Samantha, and I. Oh, and there's this other girl who's visiting. She's been here for three days and she-"
He was interrupted by a voice.
"You don't know the first thing about me, Maxan Densmore."
I was beginning to realize that interrupting was a common theme in this loop.
We turned to see a girl with brown hair standing in the doorway. She'd obviously been outside all day. Her face was beaded with sweat and there was mud on her shoes. Her hair was coming out of her ponytail.
Maxan blushed scarlet. "H-hey, Augi," He stuttered.
Augi's eyes were fixed on Bronwyn. "Hey," She said, walking towards her. "Didn't think I'd see you here. Where's everyone else?"
Bronwyn bit her lip. "See, we were kidnapped by Hollowgasts. We've been trying to find the others again."
"I'm coming with you," Augi announced. "There's someone in that group I need to clear things up with,"
"May I ask who?" I questioned. Augi's turned to me. "You're Caul's son, aren't you?"
I nodded. "What's your peculiarity?" I asked.
"Shapeshifting," She replied. "What about you?" "I can control lightning and electricity. How do you know Bronwyn?" I said.
"That's none of your business."
I dropped the subject.
"What's your peculiarity, Maxan?" Bronwyn asked.
Maxan wasn't blushing as bad anymore, but the second Augi looked at him he turned red again.
"I-I can do this," He said. Maxan snapped his fingers and stared right into my eyes.
I immediately wanted to do anything he wanted. If I didn't do the task he asked me to fulfill, I was a failure. This boy was my master.
"Luke," He said. "Why don't you do me a favor and grab me some water from the kitchen?"
I was about to head to the kitchen, but the moment I broke eye contact with Maxan, I snapped out of the spell.
"Woah," I said. "That's cool."
Maxan grinned. "Thanks."
"Well," Miss Blue Jay said. "Let's get you some dinner and set you off, shall we?"

Hey, everyone!! I just wanted to clear something up. Augi is not my character. She belongs to fabulous_filipina . All Augi's rights go to her. I got a request to put her in the story.
