Capitol, Here we Come

Peeta, I think, is trying to wake me but I don’t budge. I just let out a tired moan. “You can sleep when we get to the hotel, I promise,” he tries. Nothing. “Well if we don’t get off the hovercraft now it will take us right back to Twelve.” As soon as Peeta said that I knew he wanted to take it back.

“Now she’s just gonna wanna stay on here longer to go back to Twelve,” I hear Haymitch chime in. Then, with my Capitol altered ear, I hear the swishing of water in a cup, and I know what its for, but before Haymitch can soak me with it, I shoot right up.

“Alright, alright, alright… I’m up.” Peeta just looks confused.

“Why so jumpy all of the sudden, sweetheart?” I just point at the water, “Sometimes I’m grateful for my Capitol ear.” I say taking Peeta’s hand. Walking off of the hovercraft into the station we are surrounded by maybe all of Panem. I squeeze Peeta’s hand and shoot him a look.

“Don’t worry, love. I’ll distract them with my Peeta charm,” I just laugh. Peeta is so confident and natural when it comes to stuff like this- charming the pants off of people.

After making, or shoving, our way through the crowd we make it to the car that will take us to our hotel. Like a gentleman, Peeta opens the door for me and I slide in. Since it is a ‘Capitol car’, the seats are super comfy and long, the windows are tinted dark, and there is a mini food bar. However, I am far too tired to eat. Peeta rests his hand on my lap and I turn my head towards him and give him a kiss on his nose. I suddenly get the goose bumps from Peeta’s touch.

“You know, your hands are actually like ice sickles,” I say blushing.

“Okay?” Peeta says smirking while moving his hand up my one leg.

“I’m serious Peeta,” so before he can go any further I take both of his hands in mine and I give them both a kiss, I know- I’m corny.

For the rest of the ride Peeta just sleeps. I just look out of the window and try and look past the disgrace of the Capitol. We drive by the Capitol Town Hall and there is a big ass picture of whom? Me. I see my scar covered self in the uniform Cinna designed for me, with my high-tech bow. The picture is captioned with my words- “Fire is catching, and if we burn, you burn with us.”

The Rebellion will never leave me. No matter how hard I try to erase the tortuous memories from my mind, there is always something to remind me of my past. My horrible past.

The next building has a picture of the “star squad”. I see the faces of the people who sacrificed their lives for not only the people of Panem, but for me. This picture is captioned- “Down with the Capitol.”

I look away from the window so I won’t have to endure the pain. A small tear escapes my eye as I turn to see Peeta’s eyes wide open, “You now, I think you looked super sexy in those pictures.” I honestly cannot take Peeta’s sarcasm right now. Without saying anything just look him straight in his glass-like eyes.

“Why did we have to go through that? Why us,” I say.  For the first time Peeta doesn’t have any words to say. “The only good thing that came out of it all was us,” I mumble. I turn my head away from Peeta, but not before long he brings my head to face his.

“The worst things come easy, but the good things you have to fight for. And you fought for me, and I fought for you,” Peeta whispers, “Well I actually fought you, but that’s beside the point,” he laughs.

“You always have to turn something heartfelt into a joke don’t you?”

“It’s the truth though.”
