We walk over to what is like Twelve’s Seam and Peeta orders our ice cream and I take Flynn over to a table and wait for Peeta. “Aunty Catnip, Mommy also lets me skip my nappy,” Flynn says giving me his puppy dog eyes. “Does she now?” Flynn shake shakes his head, “Well we’ll see about that.” I say tickling him and Flynn can’t stop laughing. I hear Peeta’s heavy footsteps coming towards us with the ice cream. “Looks like you two know how to have fun without Uncle Peeta.”
“Well since you took an eternity to get our ice cream, I had to find a way to pass the time.” I say teasing him. Flynn is already knee deep in his ice cream. “What flavor did even order?” I say laughing.
“I think it’s a mixture of every flavor there is,” Peeta says.
“Well you should know, you ordered it.” Peeta just laughs. “Slow down, Flynn, you’re gonna get a belly ache.” Flynn is literally shoveling the ice cream down his throat.
Before I can tell him to slow down again, he shouts, “Done!”
“Are you sure, Flynn? Because you have it all over your face.” I say wiping, or attempting to wipe it off. “No!” Flynn is protesting.
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Yes. Yes. Yes!”
“No. No. No!”
“Alright.” I “give in”.
“I knew I would win!”
“Oh, really?” I start tickling him, “Peeta, wipe his face?” Peeta is just staring at me before he heard me, “Peeta?” “Oh, right…sorry.” Flynn’s face is clean and he is now laughing uncontrollably.
“Look who won now.” I say still tickling him. “Why don’t we head over to the beach?” Peeta adds.
“I’d love too, love.” Peeta wraps his arms around me and kisses me, passionately. “Eww,”
“You know, Flynn one day you’re going to meet a girl and then you won’t be saying, ‘Ew’”. Peeta just looks so in his element with Flynn, it’s so attractive.
Peeta still has his arms around me, but I break away. “Let’s make a bet.” I propose.
“Okay, what are we talking about here?”
“If both Flynn and I beat you to the beach, you have to... make me breakfast in bed every morning.”
“Isn’t that what I do every day?”
“Breakfast in bed.”
“Oh, you’re getting fancy aren’t you?” I shake my head. “But if I win,” he says in his seductive voice, oh boy, “you know.” I get a smirk on my face along with Peeta, but I look away. “Deal.” And I start running, “I didn’t know Deal meant Go?” Peeta complains.
“Oh, stop whining you little baby.” I pick Flynn up and he gets on my back, “You better hurry up if you want to win.” Flynn and I are laughing uncontrollably. We reach the beach first waiting for Peeta.
“Are you ready to be my waiter?”
“How funny.” Peeta picks me up, laughing...shit. Peeta throws me in the ocean, “I’ll always win, hun.”
“Tell me that tomorrow when you are waiting on me hand and foot.” I swim out of the warm water and walk over to Peeta and Flynn who are laughing.
“Very funny.” I pick Flynn up and drag Peeta into the water with me. “Now I’m getting back at you.” I teach Flynn how to swim. After a while Peeta and I get out and just watch Flynn swim. “Remember the last time we sat here?” Peeta says.
“How could I forget? It was the best night of my life.”
“I’m glad to hear that.” Peeta starts to kiss me and we fall onto the sand, until I hear Flynn. “C’mon Flynn, time to go home.”
“No, I don’t want to go home.”
“Well if we don’t leave then we can’t come back tomorrow.” Flynn immediately comes out of the water and runs over and sits on my lap.
“You promise we can come back tomorrow?”
“Promise.”
“Pinky promise?”
“Pinky promise.” Peeta just stares at me, for about the hundredth time today.
“You are going to the most amazing mom.” He says kissing me on the head and helping me up.
The walk back to the house is silent, but it's not an awkward silence...it's a nice silence. Flynn is asleep in my arms and Peeta and my fingers are interlocked. “I mean it, Katniss. You really are going to make a great mom.” I just sigh and see Peeta’s smile turn to a slight frown. I reach up and kiss him, and his smile returns as we walk into the house. It is pitch black in the house but its only 4:30.
