Home Sweet Home

The instant Peeta and I walk through the doors of our home, I feel at peace (the first time in days).

“Do you hear that?” I ask Peeta.

“No, what?”

“That is what silence sounds like. Well it’s not silent if you are talking,” he smirks.

“Well you are talking, too,” I retort.

“Fair enough,” Peeta says walking up to me wrapping his arms around my waist. “So what do you feel like doing today?”

“Today? It’s like 8:00 at night, I am tired.”

“So I’m guessing you’re hungry too,” Peeta says kissing my neck.

“Ya, but I am hungry for food. Not you.”

“Someone thinks she’s funny, hmm.”

“I don’t think. I know.”  I say mimicking Peeta.

“You know, I won’t make cheese buns if you are giving me attitude.”

“Says the one with the attitude.” Peeta and I both share in a laugh.

I watch as Peeta kneads the dough. His arms full of muscle move back and forth effortlessly.

“I’m going to go take a shower, and you better be finished by the time I come back. Or else,” I say.

“Or else, what,” Peeta says with too much sass for my liking.

“That was a rhetorical statement.” I say walking up the stairs. I undress from my clothes and set the shower to hot. The water, just like the sound of Peeta’s heartbeat, has a calming effect on me. I let the water soak my hair, and I feel at ease, until I hear noise behind me. I jump at the noise and turn around to see… Peeta. “Geez, Katniss. Calm down.”

“I was calm,” I say blushing, “until you showed up.” Even though Peeta and I are engaged, I still feel uncomfortable with him seeing me, ya know, naked.

“You look extra cute when you’re blushing”

“Stop it.” I say. One thing I hate more than blushing, is people mentioning my blushing. “I thought you were making me food?”

“Bread has to bake, Katniss. Unless you want to eat raw dough.”

“That doesn’t make me any less hungry.”

“Don’t take this the wrong way, but you do have to fit into a wedding dress.” Peeta says rubbing soap on my shoulders and back.

“Ya, but that’s not for a while.” As soon as Peeta mentions “wedding dress” I instantly feel like I am having an anxiety attack. I know there is a lot, and I mean A LOT of things we have to do for our wedding. The worst part is nothing had been planned, let alone thought of. I know it all my fault, but that’s not important.

“Katniss, we really need to start thinking about our wedding,” Peeta says anxiously.

“I know,” I whisper carefully. Peeta begins to say something, but I cut him off, “But we have one thing planned…unofficially.”

“And what’s that?”

“The wedding cake,” I say turning around to face Peeta.

“Ahh. But that is one thing out of like, I don’t even know, but we still have a lot to plan.”

“I’ve never see you so… jumpy before.”

“Well that’s because I. Just. Cant. Wait. To. Marry. You,” Peeta says in between kisses. “As much as I don’t want to, I’m gonna go check on your cheese buns.”
