Chapter 24 part 1: Accidents and Assassinations

I walked up to Zafren and hugged her.
"Well, I have come here today to talk to you about some important matters." she said rocking back on her heels.

"You want to go somewhere quiet?" I asked her and she nodded. I hugged Caius as Zafren and I walked into the woods. We walked until we were way out of ear shot and climbed up a tree to sit on one of the big limbs.

"You know I can't have children right?" She asked and I nodded. "Well I want you to be my predecessor, that means you will have to give up this life and live in Hell in my castle." she said to me looking down and being very cautious.

"I can not do that Zafren. You knew my answer before you came here. I can not leave my family, my pack, my mate, and my baby." I said firmly making sure she knew there was no way she was going to change my mind.

"I know but I have no one to take my throne if something were to happen to me." she added to her plea hope still in her eyes.

"No, I can't do that. But I can give you something. I can give you a child, give you one seed and you have to find a mate to fertilize the egg. I will give you one chance." I said as I touched her stomach and jumped off the tree branch.

"Thank you, but you will always be my first and you will get your inheritance." She said as she too jumped down and disappeared into a shadow. I walked back to the Cullen's house and went inside to see them starring at me.

"What was said between us will stay that way until it is time, then you will know." I said as I walked passed them all to my Caius.

I turned and talked to Carlisle as to where Percy and his fellow campers were. He said they left because duty called and they had to go. But they left a note in my room.

Standing there processing the information, I sighed and hugged Caius for comfort. Then the atmosphere of the room changed as Alice frozen in a vision and I could tell it was something bad because I could feel the horror and sadness.

"Esme and Rose take the baby into the safe room hide lock and block everything. I will mind link you when everything is alright." I said as I picked the baby up from her crib and handed her to Rose as they hurried downstairs.

The rest of us hurried outside. Alice said something about 3 minutes till who ever arrived. We stood there waiting.

"30 seconds guys!" Alice said as we all got in defensive positions. Then a group of 6 vampires walked through the woods with a bag on another female vampire's head.

"Greetings Cullen's and it seems some of the Volturi are here as well!" said a dark brown haired guy.

"Hello Christoph, how long has it been a thousand years or two?" said Aro with a dash of venom in his voice.

"I was thinking the same dear friend, it has been too long." Christoph said as a evil smirk appeared on his face.

"We have something you might want." he said snapping his fingers as two of his henchmen pushed forward the woman and ripping the bag off her head. When they did that they revealed Athenodora.

I gasped in shock at the sight before me. She was very scared, it was obvious that they beat her and who knows what else. She wasn't much of a fighter since she was locked up for a long long time. Then my protective instincts kicked in as I looked at her face, the pain in her eyes and I can see she was turned young by her youthful appearance.

"You bastard what did you do to her!!" I shouted, Caius held me back tightly.

"Nothing for you to worry about bitch." said one of the guys holding Adora back, I used my physical shield to put each one of the guys in one.

I looked at the guy saying something very ironic that he was getting ready to realize, "Burn in hell!" I said as I took my half demon form and cracked my neck then the guy burst into flames screaming in pain as they engulfed him.

I sent a wicked sharp toothed smile towards Christoph. I took the shields down because they where all frozen in fear by this point.

"You have the count of 4 to tell me what is going on now!" I yelled wanting answers as quickly as possible.

"We want revenge for what the Volturi did to each of our covens; for killing them when they broke a law, a small law, a meaningless law!" said the guy on the right hand side of Christoph.

"The law is the law no matter how big or small. You will pay for your unlawfulness and treason." I said as I killed him with flames.

Then I went to kill Christoph I grabbed him by his throat, he just laughed.
"You better rethink this witch." he spat at me I turned and looked and one of his men had a match. I looked at Adora and noticed what I missed, she is drenched in kerosene, he flicked it at her.

As soon as the match was halfway to her I broke off Christoph's head from his wretched body and jumped over to the guy who threw the match broke his neck as well clearing the rest but it was to late. She was ash.

I never got to know her or talk to her and for that I felt guilty. She left to go live with the Irish coven since she had the chance to go somewhere new. I knelt there at her ashes.

"Get me an urn." I said in a voice that was barely a whisper. Jasper left and came back with an urn that Esme used for decoration. I scooped up Athenodora's ashes into the urn. I used my nail to etch into the base of it, Here is Athenodora, beloved friend and sister. May her immortal soul last forever.

I sat there and just held her remains close to me. I got up and went inside to Esme's office and wrote down flower memorial and talk to Brittany on her note pad. I took the urn to my office and sat her on my desk.

I linked to Esme telling her it was safe. Then I returned outside and burned all of the groups heads and searched their bodies for any clue as to what they really wanted.

I found a note saying to kill each and everyone of us and to use any means necessary. I gave it to Carlisle and burned the bodies. I went to my room and I fell asleep. Heavy thoughts turning into heavy dreams.
