Two Weeks Later

Chris

“Let’s take a look at this baby.” Nurse Jackie said excitedly as she put on her clothes. Robyn and I are back at the doctors office hoping we’ll find out the sex of the baby today. I’ve been counting down the days for this and my birthday which is tomorrow. I knew Robyn had something really special planned for me but I don’t really want a big party. Finding out whether we’re having a healthy son or daughter was enough for me.

"Do you think the baby had moved around at all?" Robyn asked.

"We’ll have to see. Hopefully today will be the big day."

"Me too." I said. Robyn was already laid back on the table and the nurse was putting the gel on her stomach.

"Are you guys still fighting over what the gender is?"

"Yeah. We wouldn’t have to fight if Chris would just accept the fact that we’re having a girl."

"Can you please stop calling my son daughter?” Robyn shook her head and rolled her eyes.

"We’re betting on it too." She said.

"What’s the bet?"

"If I win Robyn has to decorate the baby’s room and if she wins I have to do it."

"Oooo that’s interesting. Let’s see who the winner is shall we?"

"Which will be me." Robyn said confidently.

"Yeah yeah. Whatever."

"Are y’all ready?"

"Yes. Let’s do this thing." Robyn said.

"I’m gonna stand in front of the screen, count to three and then show you guys the results."

"That’s cool." I said.

"And please don’t rub it in each other faces." Nurse Jackie said as she ran the wand over Robyn’s stomach.

"No promise." She said with a giggle. After I few seconds I asked "Do you see anything yet?"

"Yes and her legs aren’t crossed this time."

"Her?" Robyn said cautiously. I guess she didn’t want to get too excited if she didn’t hear her right.

"Opps. I said too much."

"So it’s a girl? Lemme see that screen." Jackie moved out of the way and I looked at the monitor long and hard. No matter what way I turned my head I didn’t see Breezy Balls anywhere. I guess I am having a daughter. At least when I decorate her room I can put bars on the windows without hearing Robyn’s mouth.

"Ha! I told you! Didn’t I tell you we were having a girl? But nooooo you didn’t believe me. Have fun painting my daughter’s room. No monsters please."

"Hey, didn’t I say no gloating?"

"Sorry. I forgot."

"Congratulations you two."

"Thanks. When is my next appointment?" Robyn asked as she sat up and pulled her shirt down.

"A month from now like always. I’ll call and set up an appointment with you."

"See you then." Robyn said before we walked out of the office together and got into car.

"I want the baby’s room to be pink and I want you to put something cute on the walls-"

"Not now Robyn."

"Aww. Are you mad ornaw?"

"Naw."
