Chapter 11 I said it wasn’t a date!
It was quiet when we were sat in Aaron’s car. By ‘we’ I mean only him and me. No one spoke, like at all. Aaron was zoning out, not his usual self. Or maybe he was over thinking how I and Casey knew each other. It would be weird; I couldn’t blame him, after all the only people I know at school are Aaron and Erna. Oh, don’t you include the basketball guy I gave a D-shake. And don’t get me started on the D-shake theory. Boys don’t need it to be explained. Or maybe only the boys with the D I mean. Just kidding. But it’s it the truth and I have no idea if there are such people existing on the planet though. Anyways, Erna had been busy lately with tons of projects on her shoulders. That girl is one hell of a hard worker. And let’s be honest, we find only a few teens who are actually devoted to their work in this life. Few…way few…
I fidgeted with my clothes not knowing what to do. He said he would just take me out on dinner. And I said yes. I have even called Ms. Kiera that I needed a day off and she being her usual self told me I can go ahead and live my life. She even pointed out that she was starting to get worried about my social involvement. I mean, I haven’t been hanging out lately. Or maybe since half of my life. Is it too hard to believe? And I clearly made Aaron understand that this was not a date.
“Nervous?” He asked, suddenly breaking the silence.
“Pfft. Why would I be?” I replied feeling annoyed. “Nervous and I are not compatible, Mr. Woods.”
“Then why don’t you be with the antonym of nervous?”
“And what would that be?” I asked raising my eyebrow.
“That would be me.” He winked.
“I said this was a casual treat for your win” I said.
“Yeah, I know. But don’t you want to find out if we were really compatible and great together?”
I looked flatly at him. “Is that all you can utter like a parrot?”
“Don’t look at me like that. The words come out naturally”
“Of course, you’re a pro. Veronica only fell for the charm, am not kidding”
“Thank you for the compliment”
I half smiled looking outside the window. “You’re welcome”
Half of the drive, we were silent again. I had no idea where we were going. He said it would be a surprise since it was the first time we were going out together. Well we did go out on a movie but that was only because I was forced to use the tickets that were going waste. According to him, if we turn out to be a couple someday, we will remember this romantic night. All I could do was roll my eyes and cut him off saying he was acting childish.
“Do you like the ocean?”
“I do, why?”
“Thought so.”
The ice on the ice rink is just like water. You feel as if you’re floating in the air one minute and swimming in a cold lake the other. The feeling you get while figure skating is beyond our wild fantasies too. I couldn’t even explain it myself. It’s overwhelming and it makes me want to go in the oceans and just dive in. And am surprised Aaron guessed that I liked oceans. Wild guess, or is it?
“I’ve picked this restaurant near the beach side. I thought the night view would be beautiful from here.” He said pulling his car over.
“I’m fine anywhere. You didn’t have to go welcome so much trouble for me, really”
