Chapter 13 The Party Invite
I never really understood why people say our souls are woven by fate. I was never a believer. And I never believed in destiny. I believed in making miracles and so talking about fate would just seem a narrower perspective towards life. Things are right in the palm of your hands and it’s how you alter them. Yesterday, I wasn’t even in London. Did I ever think of figure skating? Did it ever occur to me that I would get to meet my two childhood buddies? Did I ever think of falling so hard in love that I forget who I was back then? But today, I am here and it’s a miracle. How things change, it is all a miracle. It’s still not fate. It really started with my decisions. And I can proudly say I like where I am today. And if I could change the time back to that night when I was with him, I would gladly do it. But I guess it was too late.
I could hear the people calling out each other. I could feel the tensed atmosphere around me. But couldn’t comprehend their words or couldn’t see anything. I didn’t really feel a thing but I only knew I was lying somewhere hot and people were running back and forth. I couldn’t lift my hands or my legs for that matter. The darkness that enveloped me was now fading bit by bit. Still, it wasn’t clear. Things take time and so I decided to wait longer. But in my wait I forgot what I was leaving behind…
“Yeah, I’ll get to it soon, doctor.”
“Is she going to be okay?”
“We’ll be discharging her by tomorrow night.”
“See if you could pre-pone it?”
“It’s fine, Kiera. My girl needs rest. Her health is more important”
I tried to lift my heavy eye-lids up and stare at the ceiling. I was blank the moment I opened my eyes and just stared at the roof. The images got less blurry with every second. Eventually, I was fully awake and it felt as if someone breathed life into me. But oh well, I was just having a nap, right. I turned my head to look at my mother. I just guessed it was her by hearing her voice.
“Oh, baby, you’re awake” She said, smiling and taking my hands in hers.
“Hey,” I said.
I didn’t know where we were because the surrounding didn’t seem familiar to me. And the smell was very uninviting. The atmosphere was traumatizing too. I could see the glucose bottle hanging to my right. I could see the typical hospital environment.
Then it occurred to me.
“There it is.” I said putting the palm on my face, “Why…how long has it been since I was in hospital?”
