Chapter 19 Peek-a-boo, I see you!
Thud!
A heavy noise woke me up from my sleep. I tried to ignore it but even the heat seemed to annoy me. It wasn’t as cold as it was before. I try moving under the warm blanket and push it away. I rub my eyes and try to open them. I roll over on my bed and look towards the door. It’s dark in here. Wait. When did I get in here?
I get off my bed in the blink of an eye and almost fall over on my face. I regain my balance and turn the lights on. I am still in my fancy clothes and I wonder what the actual heck happened. Suddenly, everything dawns upon me. The meeting of Aaron.
Oh God, I was so tired and exhausted with everything that was going on in my life that I slept while talking to him. And I almost forgot what happened just a few hours ago. I check the time and it’s not even 12:30. I pull open the door of my room and scurry down the stairs as if I knew he would be sitting down there. I know he wouldn’t be there but looks like I was right after all.
Aaron was fixing his boots as he stood outside my front door in the dim light. I catch him off guard as he takes in my image. He pushes the door that was left ajar and walks in.
“I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to wake you up.” He said.
“You’re going?” I asked. I flush as I realize what I asked and how it sounded.
“Yeah, it’s pretty late at night. I had to lift you all the way upstairs to your room because you slept on me” He said scratching the back of his neck.
I smile at him lovingly as he turns his back to me. He quickly turns to look at me as if he forgot to say something.
“Oh and your mother was calling you repeatedly. I had to pick up on the third ring, sorry. She told me she wouldn’t be home by 5 in the morning. I was thinking if you wanted me to—”
I cut him off saying, “No, it’s fine. You should go home, I’ll be fine”
I push him outside. I don’t want to be a burden to him. Suddenly, his phone starts making loud noises. I wonder who’s calling him late at night. In my sleep, I can’t think straight. I don’t think humans can. So, I couldn’t help ask before I could stop.
“Who’s even calling you?”
He looks at his mobile and back at me, “No, these are just messages” He said. He looks back down with a frown. “There are too many miss calls. I did try to call Ron too but my mobile was fudging with me.”
I look at him confused.
“Woah, it works now.” He said.
“Aaron, is everything okay?”
He looks at me and smiles, “Yes, Lizzie. Get changed before you go to sleep and make sure to lock your house.”
“Okay,” I respond.
“Does your mother put surveillance cameras in your house?” He asked, curiosity clearly written on his face.
“Nope, why would she?” I ask.
“I was just wondering. Anyways, I will be off now. Call me if you get into trouble or anything” He says one last time before getting out of my gate. “Now go in” He commands.
I don’t argue and turn my back to him. “Goodnight” I wish him before locking the door.
Something was up with him or I’m just thinking a lot. It’s almost 1 now that I look at the clock. Time sure flies fast. I sigh before making my way upstairs. I rummage through my night gowns to pick the softest one. I take my clothes off before pulling the gown over my head. I head back to bed and try to get some sleep. I wait for a minute or two before the sleep takes over me, again.
