Chapter 15 Staying Strong

My weekend began with the media people waiting outside my house early morning. It got difficult since few days to go out without any fear. Figure skating news has spread worldwide and I was tagged as the “secret ingredient” for England’s win this Winter Olympics. That made Casey even madder about things. I do remember what happened that night. She tricked me into getting drunk and because I had a little too much, I lost my balance and ended up on floor and fainted. After that, well, I couldn’t remember anything. Next day when I woke up, I was in some hotel lying on the bed all alone. For a second, a scary thought hit my mind but then I know nothing had happened. Because there was no one with me plus Casey would never do anything as disgusting as this to me.

Things weren’t even going well with Aaron. He’s been acting really off lately. He doesn’t ignore me but that Aaron-fire had disappeared from within him. I try too hard to make him laugh. It’s helping a little though because he said he had never seen me do that before. You know: the part about making someone laugh. Guess I really changed after all. And I wouldn’t deny it’s a good change.

I and Ms. Kiera have talked about the nationals. She said only the best skaters are in London so that made me feel a whole lot better. Or else, I was starting to act like a cat on hot bricks. But my school life was getting a little bit hectic. I wasn’t able to balance things like I pictured in my mind. I am taking too much time only for figure skating that it feels like I have been missing on half of my life this entire time. But, it’s all worth it. Tomorrow is my Nationals and I was really pumped up. I nail it; I will go for Grand Prix or World Championship. I’ll get to meet all the biggest figure skaters there. And if I am lucky, I might even be able to score two seats for London in Olympics. If I can’t then I need to go one on one with Casey Jones.

I was getting ready for my practice. Packing my bag up, I rushed downstairs in my jogging pants and sneakers. I picked some milk bread and took a few bites. My mom wouldn’t be home tonight. She said it’s something important and I shouldn’t wait for her. I got my front door locked. I had to walk all the way because there was no one to pick me up. It wasn’t far. I slipped the keys in my bag and walked outside and along the lane. I am surprised no one had tried to chase me down again since that day. The police had been working on it but things seem a bit down. I don’t get it. How can the London police not trace them down?! I guess they are up to something else because I wouldn’t doubt for one second that they want me out of figure skating.

As I kept walking, my phone started to ring. I checked the caller id and clicked the answer button.

“Hello Aaron”

“Hey Lizzie” He greeted. “Where are you?”

“I was just going out for a walk. What about you?”

“Then why don’t you come over to my place? I ordered a pizza for tonight’s the Fifa night and the delivery guy brought two extra as a Wednesday bonus. And I thought why not share it with you?”

“No, umm… Aaron. I am on a strict diet” I lied.

“You never told me that” His tone was a little off now.

“Now you know” I replied, “Look, I have to cross the road. I’ll call you, okay?”

I declined the call before he could reply as I already made it to the busy road. I didn’t mean to ditch him this way. But if I had to be noticed in tomorrow’s session, I need to work my butt off. I cannot sit at the house of a person I love eating pizza! Thought it seems very tempting.
