Michael + Ch. 36 - Thin Walls + Thick Heart

Calum stayed the night again. He's been sleeping here lately — most people would call it attachment issues — but he's just scared that he's going to lose me. Daryl, my dad, he lets Calum sleep in the same bed as me, but Calum shies away from it whenever Ashley walks into the room. There's something going on between them that I don't know about, and to me, it's incredibly stupid that they aren't speaking to me about it. Maybe it has nothing to do with me, but I feel like it does. Something is wrong, and it's a huge possibility that I'm in the middle of it.

I tried to brush it off, though. I fell asleep in Calum's arms, but woke up to an empty bed and a jacket that smelled like him hanging off of my nightstand. He always gave me his clothes – it was a cliché sort of thing, but I appreciated it. I always had something of him when he wasn't with me.

I found that he was in the kitchen cooking breakfast. I walked over there, but wobbled a bit since I wasn't used to the boot yet, and I usually required somebody to hold onto me for support. I made it out there within two minutes, and I could already see him shaking his hips left to right and mouthing the words to Nobody's Perfect by Hannah Montana. He had it on a volume of no louder than ten, since Lux and Ashley were in the other room asleep, and me, if I were still in my bedroom dreaming about living better than I am at the moment.

"Sometimes I work a scheme, but then it flips on me, doesn't turn out how I planned, get stuck in quick sand," Calum sing out loud, his arms flailing all over the place, "no problem, can be solved, once I get involved, I try to be delicate, then crash right into–"

He froze when I walked into the room. His eyes widened, his cheeks flushed, and his body stiffened. "It's – it's not what it looks like. . . oh hell, it is what it looks like. It's a bop, okay? Guilty pleasure of mine."

I walked a little closer, or limped I should say, and laced my arms around his waist. He jumped a little, but he closed the space between us and leaned his neck into my shoulder. Calum hummed, then chuckled the slightest bit before deciding to speak up. "Did you sleep well?"

"I slept alright, well, more than alright since you were there next to me, and you were really, really warm and you cuddle well and you smell nice and, fuck, I'm rambling again, aren't I?" I sighed, then looked at Calum, though I could really only see his nose, lips and eyelashes. "I don't mean to ramble, it's a habit."

He laughed again, and his eyes twinkled. "It's okay sweetheart, I find your rambling to be quite adorable."

This time my cheeks were flushing, but I didn't try to get rid of that. I wanted Calum to know that he makes me feel good inside, but sometimes it's a weird subject to talk about. "Thanks, I guess. . if that's a compliment."

Calum grabbed the spoon that he was holding, and licked something off of it – looked like batter. "It is."

He turned around, threw the spoon somewhere on the counter, (it probably landed in the sink), and he snaked his arms around my waist and lifted me up onto the counter where the cupboards were. He then pressed a kiss to my nose three times, and before I knew it, his lips were hovering mine and I could feel my heart pulsing through my wrist as I wrapped my arms around his neck for extra support and security. We stayed like that for a while, our bodies moving in sync, our pulses pounding with every breath we shared with one another – but it stopped once Ashley walked in and cleared her throat.

She seemed as if she was choking on her own spit, but she had Lux in her arms and she was covering the baby's eyes, despite the fact that she was sleeping in her mothers arms. "Jesus you two, get a room next time. Lux doesn't need to see her godfathers making out on the kitchen counter — shit, that should be a song. I should make an EP, I'd call it room 93, because that's the apartment number we're in, get it?"
