Nadia's POV

"Really Nadia? How are you gonna just let Derrick fight and it's 2 weeks until school is out" my mom said.

She was yelling at both of us for letting this happen.

"Derrick stood up to his bully, mama. What's wrong with that?" I said.

My head hurt from Jared's hit but at least I knew we were both okay.

"You both could miss your graduation for that" she said.

"I wasn't going to fight him," Derrick said. "But he hit me first"

Things got real heated in the car. My mom is completely wrong about this situation.

She said we should've walked away.

But you can only walk away so many times before you get fed up with someone's shit.

Once we got home I started walking up to my room but my mom stopped me.

Derrick went up to his room and I stayed downstairs to get yelled at some more.

10 minutes pass...

"It doesn't make sense to not defend yourself when you've been hit first!" I yelled.

"He shouldn't have hit that boy period" my mom yelled back.

I was getting really irritated and I was just about tired of trying to prove my obvious point.

"This is why Derrick shouldn't have stayed here in the first place!" She yelled.

"It's not like you were going to in the first place!! I had to fucking beg you to let him stay here!" I yelled getting even more mad.

"We don't have room!" She said.

"That's a fucking lie! We have 2 occupied rooms in this whole house! I don't know why you save a fucking room for Dominic, mama he's gone and you don't want to let that go! You make it seen like he's gonna come home one day and everything be fine but he's not!"

"Stop, Nadia" my mom said.

"It's time for you to move on from him and Daddy, it's not fair for me to have to come in this house and see you cleaning the fuck out of what was supposed to be Dominic's room and then cry about daddy's death on a daily basis! Just open your fucking eyes and live in 2017. Not 1998 and not 2003." I said.

"Nadia"

"I get Derrick isn't your son but he's the closest thing to a son that you're gonna get, so you should love him just as much as you love Dominic cause I know you love him more than me." I said walking off.

I went up to my room and slammed the door behind me.

A little time passed before someone knocked on the door.

"Go away" I said.

The door opened and it was Derrick.

He walked over and sat next to me.

"Derrick, I'm sorry" I said.

"Who's Dominic?" He asked.

"... He was supposed to be my younger brother. My mom had a miscarriage with her 2nd husband then they got a divorce."

"Who's your dad?" He asked.

"I don't know. All I have is pictures of him. He was killed the night I was born. His mom told my mom that he was at a bar when a fight broke out. He helped separate the people and then left. I guess someone thought he was fighting so they followed him to his car and shot him."

"I'm sorry" Derrick said.

"It's not your fault Derrick" I said hugging him.

Derrick has always been there for me when I needed him the most. I'm not sure if he knows the argument was about him but I don't think he cares.

He's my best friend and I love him not matter how he is...
