Dark parties

It was a bad day. I had known the moment I’d woken up and seen the bags under my eyes and the bushy black thing on my head that was supposed to be hair. I hadn't been able to sleep last night, and that morning school had been awful. For some reason I couldn't see Sam the whole day and seeing Jewel and Devon flirting in front of me while I was too busy thinking of Jayden, hadn't helped either. So yeah…I was having a crappy day since yesterday. However, once I had gone over to Jewel's, things had started to look up a little. Just a little.

"So, you want revenge, huh?" she asked from where she was sitting; in front of the mirror putting her ear rings on.

I nodded. I had already told her all about my past with Jayden and had decided, after careful consideration, that I would tell her the complete truth, including my plans. "It looks like I'm not doing a good job at it, though."

She laughed and rose from the cushioned chair. She fixed the skirt of her butter yellow dress before she spoke. "With your determination and looks, I bet it won't be long before he starts begging for forgiveness."

I rolled my eyes. "Only in my dreams will it be that easy. You're just being really nice."

It made her laugh again, but I was distracted when my phone started to ring in my pocket. "Hello?"

"Hey, Chy. How you doin'?"

I sighed when I noticed it was Sam. "Why's your phone number on private?"

He chuckled. "Is it? We were prank calling a few people yesterday with Carmen and I must've forgotten to change it back."

I laughed. "You still prank call at your age?"

I could almost see him frown. "What's wrong with my age?"

I giggled. "You're old."

"Only one year more than you."

"Whatever. I don't go around prank calling people." I rolled my eyes, not caring he couldn't see it. If I could imagine his frown, he could imagine my eyes rolling.

"You should try," he suggested.

I shook my head, but spoke as he couldn't see that either. "I don't think so."

"You're so boring." Sam laughed and I did feel him rolling his eyes.

"What?!" I asked disbelievingly, laughing at the same time. Man, I had some talent…who else can be shocked and laugh as much as me?

"Yeah…so I thought I might call and bring some fun into your life." There was that wicked tone to his usually innocent voice.

I laughed. "Not working yet," I lied.

"How about if I invite you to a party tonight?" he asked.

I didn't speak for a little, remembering when I had last gone out with him. "Might work. Where?"

"Jake's havin' a party. His nineteenth. Everyone will be there. No invitations. Wanna come?"

I wasn't sure. "What time?"

"Who cares? I'll pick you up at nine or something, and we can party till morning."

I laughed. "It's a date," I said.

He snorted. "I don't think so."

My smile didn't waver. His words just sounded too funny to be taken seriously. "You know you want to."

"Yeah, sure. Just as much as I would want to kiss my own sister."

"Hey! That's insulting."

"No babe, it's honest. We're going as friends. I might lie to a few people that you're my date, but that's because I don't want any girl clinging on to me." I could hear the barely contained laughter in his voice.
