"Who?" Jayden raised an eyebrow, but his grin had faded.
"Chyna Cunning," I repeated, delighted with the horrified expression on his face. "You couldn't have forgotten me that easily, right?" I asked, giving him my charming smile.
He let my hand go and took a step back. "If this is a prank, it isn't funny. How d'you know Chyna?"
"Oh, c'mon! Jayden..." I tilted my head to the side and fluttered my lashes at him.
He watched me closely. Now we had taken the whole class' attention. Even Mr Tubridy had stopped grumbling about calling the school security. "Chyna?" Jayden asked, taking a step closer to me this time, his grey eyes narrowed.
"Hey Jayden," I grinned and hooked my thumbs into the denim skirt's small pockets.
"Wow," he murmured as he looked me up and down. "You sure have changed." His hand went up to run through his dark hair, but his eyes didn't lose the suspicious look.
Mr Tubridy probably got bored because he shouted for everyone to look at the board. "If you, Mr Wilde and Miss Cunning are done talking, I have a lesson to teach!"
"Yes, sir," I smiled and took my seat with a final wink at Jayden.
Jayden walked back to his seat slower than I and didn't speak again for the rest of the lesson.
Jewel giggled quietly as Mr Tubridy went back to talking about trade. "Oh, my God. Did you see his face?" she whispered.
"Of course I saw his face. I'll never forget it." A small sly smile came over my face and I didn't try to hide it.
Jewel giggled again. "Wow, it was like the first time I saw him shocked like that."
I grinned at her. "Well, trust me honey, you're gonna see so much more..." I turned to look at Jayden but he was staring straight ahead, not really looking at anything. He looked distracted. Yes! As if he felt my gaze, his cold eyes met mine briefly before he looked down at his hands. I noticed then that he had a sleek, black phone in them. And from the movements of his fingers, he was texting…hmm. Who he was texting was none of my business but I still wondered. And did I wonder if it was about me!
The rest of the lesson passed like a dream. I had blocked the sound of Mr Tubridy's voice and was thinking about how I can make Jayden's fall the greatest. When the bell rang, Jewel had to touch my arm to get me out of my thoughts.
"C'mon. Let's go." She tucked a strand of her blonde hair behind her ear as she stood up.
I followed suit and my eyes met with Jayden's grey ones once again. I looked away, not feeling so great when I saw something like regret in them.
"Let's," I smiled and we walked past him.
"Are you gonna tell me what you did to him to leave him speechless?" Jewel asked when we were out of earshot.
I wanted to correct her, tell her that I hadn't done anything, but couldn't be bothered. "It's a long story. I'll tell you some other time."
Jewel's steps slowed when we saw Devon walk out of his class and walk ahead of us with a few guys. She sighed quietly.
"Are you gonna tell me what's going on between you two?" I asked, grinning.
Jewel's eyes shot to mine. "Well...nothing. I guess that's the problem."
I laughed quietly. "You have a thing for him!"
"Yeah," Jewel sighed. "And have had for the last two years." She shook her head and looked at her feet while we walked.
