CALEB
it's been at least a month now and micah and i are always with each other. we're always at my house though, but today is something different.
as micah and i were walking to his house i could see him freeze up, "what's wrong babe?" i asked him, "you seem really tense."
he closed his eyes and took a deep breath, "my mom calls me michelle and she doesn't like when people call me micah so you'd have to call me michelle. she refers to me as her "daughter" and so does my dad. my brothers respect me and they know i'm gay but my parents don't, if my mom asks you're a straight, female okay? i'm sorry for making you lie to her but i can't get hit again-" he quickly covered his mouth with his hand and i looked him in the eyes.
"m-micha. they hit you?" i asked in complete shock. he's too precious for this, that poor poor angel. he nodded and i wrapped my arms around him, i rubbed his back and held onto him tightly.
"i'm so sorry babe. i don't care if i have to lie to them. i'd do anything to keep you safe." i whispered and let go of him. he smiled slightly. the lying about being a female brought back horrendous memories but keeping micah safe is all i ever plan to do.
"shall we?" he asked and grabbed his key from his pocket. he unlocked the door and we were both greeted with the smell of cigarettes and someone yelling. i could see him start to shake so i rested my hand on his back to calm him down.
"whos at the door?" i heard a raspy voice say. i instantly started to feel uncomfortable at the sound, it reminded me of my father. i took a deep breath and removed my hand form micah's back and shoved my hands into my pockets.
"it's me mom." micah said and walked inside, ushering me in as well. he smiled at me and i returned the gesture, removing my hands from my pockets to close the door. his mom got up and looked me up and down, i hope she didn't see the obvious "male features" i had tried to obtain and focused on my "female" ones.
"who's this?" she asked with a slight grimace. it was very noticeable too, like she wanted me to know she doesn't like me. i heard micah start to stutter over his words, thinking of what to call me. he looked over and i mouthed "cat." it was by dead name, but it didn't matter at the moment.
"her name is cat, she's my friend. her mom is busy so we couldn't go over to her house and we have a project to do." micah rushed out as he looked at the ground. i wanted to grab his hand and tell him that it's going to be okay, but i couldn't.
"nice to meet you....cat." she said with venom laced in her voice. i smiled at her which probably pissed her off.
"likewise." i replied with a wide smile evident on my face.
"we're going to my room. when will dad be home?" micah asked, his mom rolling her eyes.
"who cares. and keep the door open." she said walking back to her spot. this was definitely going to be one uncomfortable evening.
