The next day, I walk into school with my nose stuck in a book and am jumped by Gigi, who shakes my arm excitedly, speaking too fast for me to understand. I catch some of her words, 'Alex, flirting, Instagram' and I smile widely. Ordering her to calm down, I make her hold her breath for thirty seconds, breathe out, and then tell me again. She gushes about how she and Alex have been speaking in a flirtatious way again.

Gigi and Alex dated for a few days a couple of weeks ago, but Gigi was so worried they wouldn't work out that Alex dumped her for not trusting him. After they broke up, they didn't speak for a few weeks but soon they were back on flirting terms.

Typical Alex.

The bell rings before she is finished telling her story but I decide I'd rather not hear about the messages they shared and escape before my breakfast comes back up the other way. Gigi pouts at me in amusement and I roll my eyes, promising to listen to the rest of the story later.

First lesson passes by quickly. Mainly because I hate science with a strong passion, so when the bell indicating the next lesson rings an hour later, I have to bite my tongue to stop myself from cheering in happiness.

I take a seat in Geography with Alex, and the teacher announces we should get some laptops because we're having another coursework lesson. Claud comes in a few moments later and asks me how the play went. A bright smile appears on my face as I recount the play-version of Lord of the Flies and he chuckles when I tell him about the bits of comedy they added in here for the audience.

I jump slightly when Alex returns to my side, holding two laptops and he puts one in front of me. Thanking him with a smile, Claud complains about Alex not bringing him one and I chuckle. Alex insists he didn't even see Claud come in and Claud folds his arm over-exaggeratedly and saunters off to get his own.

Around twenty minutes in, Alex says something that really takes me off guard.

"You and I would make a really good couple, you know that?" he says beaming at me. I raise my eyebrow at his random comment, keeping my eyes on the laptop screen, resisting the blush threatening to spread on my cheeks. He chuckles before continuing, "well I just think that you're really understanding and I'm a prick. We'd really work well together."

"Erm..." I mumble, failing to conceal my blush.

"And plus, you're the only girl in my life that doesn't stress me out," he adds, and I roll my eyes.

"Well, I'm glad to hear that you appreciate my existence," I joke.

He smirks back at me, "how could I not? You are my absolute world!"

"That better not be sarcasm, I hear in your voice," I respond, a smiling slowly forming on my face.

"Never!" He laughs teasingly. I nudge him gently as we both laugh.

"Seriously though, we'd make a great couple," he repeats and I'm not sure how to respond. My heartbeat increases and I rack my brain for an appropriate answer.

"Really?" I then ask with a confused smile and he nods. "I don't know if we could ever be a couple," I then tell him honestly. For some reason, I struggle to form the words.

"Why not?" he asks, looking hurt.

"Gigi fancies you," I explain simply, "and she is my friend. So it's like a girl code thing that you can't date a guy that your friend has or does fancy."

"But I don't think I'd ever last with Gigi though, because like I said she stresses me out and she's too full-on," he shrugs. "And I don't really find her that good looking either."

"But she's gorgeous!" I argue, feeling a strong urge to defend my friend. He laughs and agrees. "You are always flirting with her, too!" I exclaim, but it comes out sounding accusatory.
