The next morning, I woke up feeling very uneasy and dizzy. My chest hurt, my heart was pounding, and I felt very sweaty. I stretched slightly and got up slowly, picking up my washbag, towel and clothes and headed to our bathroom. Once I had showered and dressed and I entered the room again and put my stuff away. I took my phone off charge and went outside to ring my mother.
"Hey baby," she said when she picked up the phone after the third ring. "How are you? Are you having fun?"
"I'm okay," I said after a few seconds of silence, not bothering to mention how I'd been feeling slightly nauseous. "We've done caving and orienteering so far. Today we're going on a hike and camping tonight."
"That sounds fun," she replied. "Are you sure you're okay, you sound like you're shaking?"
"I'm fine," I insisted, "look I will call you soon, I have to go now." Without waiting for a reply, I hung up.Hoping that breakfast was ready, I headed inside. There was still time left before breakfast was ready, so I just sat at a table and put my head down, breathing in and out deeply in an attempt to steady my racing heartbeat.
"Are you okay?" said a voice as I felt a hand on my shoulder, making me jump. I nodded in response as Luke as he sat down next to me.
"Are you sure?" he asked again. "You're literally shaking," he added putting an arm around me and his hand on mine.
"I'm fine," I insisted pulling away, thinking of how Alex would hate Luke touching me, even if he was just trying to see if I was okay.Luke smiled and pointed at the tables behind, which were now full of options for breakfast. I smiled back as we both got up to get some food. Picking up two pieces of toast and putting some jam on them I sat down and took a few bites. However, I couldn't eat too much without feeling even more nauseous, so I pushed my plate away.
"Aren't you going to eat that?" Luke asked, pointing to my left-over toast piece. I chuckled and shook my head, so he picked it up and began eating it himself. Walking away towards my room, I saw Lucy and Lydia were just pulling their hair up into ponytails.
"Ready for the hike today?" Lucy asked. I smiled widely and nodded. They headed to get some breakfast leaving the door wide open. I sat on top of my suitcase and took a few deep breaths in. I felt so uneasy and dizzy, I thought I was getting unwell.
I rummaged about my suitcase looking for things that I would need for the hike and put them on my bed. Night clothes, extra pair of trainers for the campsite, extra pair of socks...
"Perrie!" Andre said coming to the door. "It's time for the morning session."Danielle and our camping instructor began to teach us how to use and navigate with our maps and then we collectively decided on the route we'd take to the campsite. This took around 2 hours. They then told us what we had to pack in our bags and then sent us off to get them. As I headed inside, my head began to spin, I lost my balance and fell.
"Are you okay?" Aaron asked as the other girl in our group, Michelle helped me up.
"Yeah I'm fine I just felt a bit dizzy," I said as I stood up again. I walked towards my room to pick up my things from my bed. When I walked back towards the classroom, one of Caley's friends from the other group came up to me.
"Have you seen this video of Alex and Caley from earlier on, it's so cute," she said holding her phone up in front of my face. The video was of Alex who had both his arms wrapped around Caley, as they laughed at each other. I looked at the girl's face as she smirked so widely all I wanted to do was slap her. But my heart ached because of what I saw, I just walked past her and back to the classroom.
I blinked my eyes furiously trying to stop the tears from falling. Sitting down in the classroom, with the rucksack at my feet, I started filling it with the necessary items of mine as well as the items I would be carrying on behalf of the group. I filled up my water bottle and put it in the pocket on the side of my bag. I then pulled on my hoodie and walked back outside to get some air. When I came outside, I saw the Edwards team getting off a minibus. Alex got off just after Caley. He smirked at her and pulled her closer to him as she giggled. My heart ached as I watched on. Alex noticed me staring and looked at me with a blank face. Although I could see a slight pained look in his eyes, he blankly walked right past me without even a smile. I carried on walking, putting on my own blank face. I got back into my room and couldn't stop a few tears from falling. Jade barged into the room looking panicked. Still in her waterproof jacket, she put her water bottle down and wrapped her arms around me.
"Babe listen, it's not what you think," she started, and I immediately pulled away from her.
"What?!" I deadpanned.
"Caley showed him a video of you and Luke looking cosy this morning," she said, and my jaw dropped. "He looked upset but, he's a guy and that means he's an idiot because he has idiotic ways of dealing with things. He started getting all chummy with Caley, acting like he didn't care. Even when I tried speaking to him at first, he looked really upset but he covered it up well and got all cocky."
"Why wouldn't he come speak to me about it, instead of doing... that?" I asked wiping away my tears.
"I don't know," Jade replied softly.
"That explains the video I saw of him and Caley earlier," I said rubbing my temples. "He still should have spoken to me."
"Perrie," Michelle said, coming to the door, "we're leaving now."I nodded, hugged Jade and left the room. As I walked through the hallway, Alex caught my eyes, standing in the corner talking to Andre. His eyes were wide, and full of guilt. Once he caught a glimpse of me he started to walk towards me with an apologetic look but my heart was still aching from crying and I felt like I was losing control, so I headed out a of a side door so I wouldn't have to speak to him.
I joined the rest of the group as we all left the centre, and started the long trek to the campsite. I was zoned out for most of the hike. We walked through fields and lots of thick woodland, past a stream and through some really muddy paths.Once we got to the campsite, we all paired up and started putting up the tents. Then we had to cook food over the stoves, which in all honesty I really hated. It was really hard to set the stove up. As we ate the instructors made a fire. Both teams Perham and Jackman sat around the fire, roasting marshmallows and telling cheesy jokes. It was really nice and for a few moments, I actually managed to forget how bad I was feeling. Just for a few moments.
Once I had enough, I walked back to the tent so I could go to sleep. Andre called out to me, making me stop in my tracks.
"It was a misunderstanding, you know," he said, "he felt so bad for jumping to conclusions."
I let out a large sigh, "then why did he?" Andre was about to speak but I cut him off, "look I'm really tired, I've been feeling so weird and ill since yesterday, I just want to sleep and I really don't want to talk about Alex!"I began to feel strong sensations of shortness of breath. I started breathing really fast and they each came out shallower and shallower. I felt chocked like I couldn't get enough air in. Feeling numb all over, I clamped both my hands to my chest feeling a stabbing pain. I felt like I was dying.
I'm dying! What is wrong with me, why can't I breathe?
"I think she's having a panic attack."
