"Sorry girls, but I'm choosing Y/n to be my partner." Shalnark said, interrupting me from my thoughts.
"Do you really want to be with her?" Jess ask.
W-what? Did he just say he wanted to be with me? Nah, you're just imagining things Y/-
"Yes I do." Shalnark both answered Jess and my question.
Normal POV
"Out of all the people you could choose, why her?" Jess questioned Shalnark.
Pfft, trust me, I did not see it coming as well. But after my challenge finish, then I could go back toying with the girls again -Shalnark.
Is he really willing to work with me? No one has ever done that to me before. Either way, he's still Playboy so he might be toying with me. Don't get your high ups Y/n -Y/n.
"Because like I said, my heart only beats for her." Shalnark answered.
Pfft! Yeah right, I could see the lie in your eyes my baby even though you're not telling us. She's your next target. She is so gonna get in trouble with us later. I'll make sure that -Jess.
If this is a joke, please stop it cause it's not funny -Y/n.
Argh! I can't believe I'm saying those stuff! Especially in front of all these girls! Now my reputation would finally be ruined! Curse you Phinks! -Shalnark.
Peyow! He likes that girl? Yeah right, he might just feel pity for her! -Carla (One of Jess's minions)
Ha! This time for sure, he'll lose! No doubt about it! Sooner or later, he'll feel like he would want to end the challenge! -Phinks
"That is, if it's okay with my Princess to be partner with her?" Shalnark looked at Y/n, who puts her book down on the table and stared Shalnark into his blue eyes.
Y/n opened her mouth behind her scarf as if to say something, but nothing came out and she was thankful that no one had seen her do that.
"Shalnark and Y/n, would you please come to the front since the two of you are partners?" Satotz commanded without even caring that Y/n hasn't agree to be Shalnark's partner, but they obide anyway.
Reader's POV
After Satotz told me and Shalnark to go at the front, I felt every eyes in the room staring and glaring at me like I've done something really bad. I secretly glance at Shalnark to see if he's going to go first or not, but he was waiting for me to make my move first.
With a sigh of defeat and slightly rolling my eyes, I slowly stood from my chair and walk towards the front. I could hear Shalnark's footstep following behind me. As I walk by, everyone was either whispering things about me or criticizing me. Either way, I couldn't care less.
As soon as we reached the front, not knowing what to happen next, Satotz once again called another pair and make them go at the front until everyone was in pairs. Satotz number us off which everyone was still finding out what we're doing up until now.
The groups are:
1. Carla and Jess
2. Kurapika and Melody
3. Phinks and Nobunaga
4. Uvogin and Machi
5. Shalnark and Y/n
6. Kortopi and Pakunoda
7. Jason and Ren
8. Hatsu and Zetsu
"Now that every one is in pair, I'll tell you what you're going to do. The best pair will be fighting at the National Mathematics Competition at 2017 which is this year and they would get to represent the school." Satotz explained and everyone started whispering.
"It's so gonna be us."
"I don't think so."
"Y/n and Shalnark are together and they're the most smartest student in class."
"Damn I should have chosen Shalnark!"
"Even if it's a competition, I'll never choose Y/n."
"She's lucky Shalnark chose her. I mean, what did he see in her?"
"Maybe just using her cause she's the smartest."
Whoever was whispering, I didn't pay attention to them as I just stared forward and my mind is blank, still processing that I have a partner. Even though he's trying to toy me, at least I will finally experience having a partner!
"Now I will draw two numbers from the box and that will indicate who you'll be versing. The last one standing would be the pairs that will be in the competition. You will have three rounds answering about Math question. Now, let the game begin!" Satotz announce and he drawed two numbers.
It was #1 which were Carla and Jess verse #7 which were Jason and Ren. In the end, Carla and Jess won. Second match was #2 which were Kurapika and Melody verse #3 which were Phinks and Nobunaga.
Not to be mean but with Phinks and Nobunaga's intelligence combined together, well... they're as dumb as a fish. They do know some things but since they're versing Kurapika and Melody, they don't stand a chance. And as suspected, I was correct. #2 had won the match.
#4 which were Uvogin and Machi was next verse #6 which were Kortopi and Pakunoda. Which leaves me and Shalnark #5, versing #8 which are Hatsu and Zetsu.
"Look who we have here, the Phantom troupe." Uvogin slightly growled at his opponent.
"Spider troupe." Pakunoda did the same.
"Rumors said that the Spider troupe are finally catching up with your troupe."
"Not on my watch." Pakunoda smirk.
