Kacey's POV

I bite my lip nervously as we pull up by a house. "We're here!" Spencer turns the car off and we all step outside. "Damn, we look good!"

Jack smiles and rolls his eyes. "Time to go over some rules."

I raise my hand. "Right. Like who's the designated driver?" I ask, thinking it should be me since I don't really drink.

Spencer quickly shakes his head. "I plan on getting drunk."

Sara pinches his arm. "Of course you do, Spencer. Just not too drunk. You still have a mate."

"I know. I'm going to be a responsible drunk." I roll my eyes at that.

I decide to volunteer. "I'll be the driver."

"You sure, Kacey?"

"Yeah, I don't drink anyway so you guys have fun you dirty sinners." I smirk and point finger guns.

Spencer wraps his arm around Sara and whispers in her ear as they start walking into the house. Jack looks at them in disgust as he and I follow behind.

The minute we open the front door, the smell of alcohol floods my nose. Almost everyone is making out and some guy is being cheered on as he chugs beer from a flower vase.

"Girl look," Jack taps my shoulder and points to a couple kissing by the stairs. "I know damn well that's her cousin."

I gag and look the other way.

Spencer and Sara have stopped in the kitchen to have a drink. We follow them.

Then they start making out.

Jack sighs. "Gross. I'll stay with you, Kacey. I'm pretty sure they're gonna go upstairs and try to fuck or something."

Sara just giggles at something that Spencer said to her.

I kinda wanna punch them in the face.

"Can you guys keep it in your pants for one day?"

Spencer laughs and drinks something that he probably found on the counter. "It's not my fault she can't keep her hands off of me." She slaps his arm.

"I have to use the bathroom. I'll be back in five minutes. Or more. There are way too many people in here." Sara announces.

I look around the house. "I don't think you should go alone. Want me to go with you?"

"Nah, I'm trying to be more independent. Thanks though." She leaves to go upstairs. I still feel a lump of uncertainty well up in my throat.

Spencer pats Jack on the back, making Jack move forward. "So... you found your mate, huh?"

"Yep. Nick." Jack sighs dreamily.

Spencer squints. "That guy was pretty creepy yesterday."

"No he wasn't!" He defends.

"He kept staring at you while you were literally looking in every other direction. You even told me to make a distraction."

Jack smacks his teeth and rolls his eyes. "I was nervous. Besides, I kind of liked it."

Spencer nods his head in understanding before his face gets stuck in a daze. "I remember when Sara and I met. She wasn't nervous at all. Everywhere I went she made sure to be one step ahead of me. Of course, it was pretty creepy in middle school."

I almost roll on the floor in laughter when I remember how stalkerish Sara was. Sometimes she would even send me to do her dirty work. I'm just surprised Spencer stayed friends with us.

"When we found out we were mates, all she could say was 'ha! I knew it'."

Suddenly his face goes blank before he lets out a thunderous growl.

He runs upstairs immediately. Confused, Jack and I follow him all the way up to a room.

He busts the door down to see two guys on top of Sara with her crying. Spencer jumps and shifts into his wolf, knocking down one of the guys. Luckily the guy is a wolf, so he'll at least survive. While one is down, Jack gets on top of the other guy, who isn't a wolf, and starts beating him while I take Sara downstairs and go outside.

Fighting a human in creature form could get you serious jail time.

"Well," Sara starts with a sniff. "I guess this is my first and last party."

I reach into my bag, pulling out a napkin and wiping her tears. "What happened?"

"I was waiting in line for the bathroom when a guy came to me and called me sexy. I said I had a mate but he wouldn't go. He got closer and I pushed him away. That's when he slapped me and dragged me into a room where his friend was waiting. I was already mindlinking Spencer at that point."

"How did no one see that?"

"They did. They- uh-... they looked away." Her voice was almost broken as she turned away in shame.

It's not a good feeling to be ignored while you're practically screaming for help.

Jack soon brings Spencer outside, holding him back from going for more.

Spencer calms down once he sees us, ignoring his bloody knuckles.

"Are you okay Sara? What all did they do to you?" Sara just stares at the ground, tears visibly falling to the ground.

He picks her up and gently whispers, "Let's go home."
