Chapter 13

I have nothing else to do as I have finished all my chores for the day. Life was boring and dull without Snow coming by to see me as often since he realized that I have been avoiding him.

Ahh... No matter what I do, every second is full of thoughts on wanting to be embraced by him.

Dahlia caught me in a daze and pinches my elbow. I yelped in a low volume and glared at Dahlia for always pinching me every time I was out of it.
She shakes her head while clicking her tongue.

"You've been like this ever since you met with the Queen! Did something happen? I'm getting worried." She asks, folding her arms together.

I never told anyone but Dahlia is a close friend of mine and I wanted someone to cave in from all these weeks.

She stares at me with her mouth hanging open.

"She wants you to do what?!" She shouted with her eyes wide.

I put a finger on my lips to tell her to keep quiet. She closed her mouth and then talks in a hushed manner.

"Well that's disappointing.. I never thought she was that kind of person. She acts so righteous and kind in public but with you..." She stops and regained her composure, "So are you going to continue with her idiotic orders?" She asks calmly.

I nodded and she sighed with anger. "Well it's true that if you go against her she will kill you. Gods.. I can't really complain if she wants her son to be with someone rich and has everything because they need to find peace with different countries but she threatens you.. That's just cruel because what you're doing is making you look cruel." She stated.

"I know that.. But what can I do, you know?" I rubbed my right eye and looked at the sky which looks like it's about to rain.

Dahlia looked at my stale face and patted my shoulder lightly.

"I heard that Eric was looking for you. You should go and check what he wants." She said and went off to water the plants in the garden.

Eric again..? What does he want now?

I went all over the castle and finally found Eric simply having a chat with one of the butlers in the castle. You could tell I was feeling depressed from my dragging footsteps and Eric turned to look at me as his furrowed eyebrows turned relaxed.
He sent the butler off and walked towards me.

"Are you still sad?" He asked, "Never mind.. It's obvious that you are.. Sorry." He bended down to take a look at my face.

"Do you want to take a break from work perhaps? I won't take it off your paycheck." He suggested sympathetically.

"No, I don't need to! I'm fine. Anyway I've finished all my chores.."

He looks at me with a pause for a second and then he directs me to go send an envelope to the governor who has visited to talk about the civil problems. I went on my way to look for the governor and saw the old man wearing a striking suit. I called out to him politely and bowed.

"This envelope was handed to me to give you its contents." I showed him the envelope and he received it with a nod.

I went on my way back to where I last saw Eric but I couldn't seem to find him. I sighed with my shoulders drooping.. Continuously thinking of what to do next and the loneliness I felt was unbearable to me. People were busy running about their chores and have left the area I was located in. Suddenly the familiar scent of apples enveloped my whole body.

Flinching, I pushed Snow away from me as his arms wrapped around me.
He looked very sad and frustrated.

"(y/n).. We need to talk." He said taking a step towards me.

"No. We don't need to talk about anything." I replied briskly and walked backwards slowly.

"Why are you avoiding me? Have I... Done something?" He asks, obviously confused.

"..." I stayed silent and I looked down, not wanting to see his pained expression.

"(y/n)!" He grabs my hand but I pulled my hand away forcefully.

"I said I don't want to talk about anything! Leave me alone!" I shouted at him.

"How can I leave you be?! I'm left with nothing but pain and confusion each time you avoid me. It's been months since you first started to act like this!" He shouts angrily with glistening eyes.

Why am I doing this? Your mother forbids us from dating.. If only I came from a powerful family then things wouldn't have been so complicated!

Each step that he takes leaves me taking another step back. Being cornered to a dead end left me trying to escape sideways but he realizes and locks me in place by abruptly placing both palms on the wall.
My eyes turned wide from how close we were at that moment.

"I've been longing to have you in my arms... All these months has been tough because I couldn't stand being apart from you.. Even worse, you have grown to dislike me." He said without blinking once.

I straightened my expression and looked below, but not tilting my head or anything.
He lifts my chin up gently but with a hint of force.

"Tell me. Why are you doing this?" He asks.

I stared straight into his dark and lonely eyes..

How does one convey such loneliness but still looks majestic and beautiful?

I put my hand on his broad chest and pushed him with all my strength.
He stumbles back a few steps and I took the chance to escape.

I don't want to show my tears or he'll know that I actually love him.. This is for his own benefit as well! (y/n), even if you suffer... At least he's going to be happy and not regret for being with a commoner like you.

I didn't want to show my red face and endless amount of tears streaming down my cheeks.. Everything will be ruined if he does see me in this state.

Sobbing and wailing endlessly, I looked up to see the witch casting her shadow down upon me, wih an irritating smirk on her red lips.

Does all she do is smirk?
