Percy:
Even if they didn't ask if it was true, I got the reactions. And of course, family first.
Mom came in first. And she didn't seem too shocked. She was just confused because I've had a girlfriend and that entire situation. But she really didn't care.
Paul never showed up. Mom told me he was gone. He heard it and he freaked out and left.
Peter was next. He was just curious as to like if I was dating or anything. He's bisexual, he could care less. So I told him about Nico, and I think he sort of already knew. That gear clicked into place, though. And he smiled at me, and remarked that it seemed really nice. Cute.
So they weren't hard. The kids and Susan were just happy to see me. They didn't understand it. Patrick asked me what gay meant, and I told him that it meant that I like guys, not girls.
It was really cute. Because Paris asked me if she could be gay, too. So I told her to be whatever she wanted to be. She had time to figure it out.
The hardest person to face was my dad.
And it wasn't because he didn't approve. He didn't freak out.
It was because I was waiting on him to do just that. To freak out on me and to call me a disgraced. To just lose it.
"You do know that I'm not mad, right?" My dad pointed out to me as he sat down next to me. "I know I'm not the best person out there. But I'm not mad at you for being gay. I'm more upset you didn't tell me. But it's not like I'm around for you to tell me."
"I, uh..."
I had no idea what to say.
"I mean, hell, Percy," my dad insisted after I fell silent. "All of us on Olympus. We've all been with guys. We've all been with girls. Some are more open about it. Mainly Apollo. But we're all included. I found out about your mom from your uncle, mom's brother of course, after I ran into him on the beach and he invited me on a double date. I just walked out with your mom instead of your uncle."
Suddenly, I was confused.
"You..." I trailed off and looked at my dad. He was serious, I could tell. He wasn't joking, he was trying to assure me that he was fine with it by giving an example. "Dad, I don't... I've never had an uncle. Mom has never mentioned or... She's an only child. Last I checked."
That confused Dad.
"No?" He said, as if that sounded stupid. "Percy, your mom is a triplet along with having an older brother. I still have his number. I have all of their numbers."
My dad called all three of them, and my mom. My uncle showed up first. The one dad intended to go out with. The oldest one. Alexander. Alex.
He's the gay uncle every family has.
"Poseidon, you haven't called me in like 20 years." Alex entered the room, wearing a suit. "You can't just—"
"Who the hell are you and why do you look like Poseidon?"
Now, let me give you a description. He had a lot of the same features as my mom, alright? But he actually looked gay. I can't explain why. It's not like he wore makeup or anything.
He just looked gay.
"Um, hi." I said. "I'm Percy. I look like Poseidon because he's my dad."
Alex sighed and looked at my dad.
"You had a kid?" He questioned. Sounding tired of bullshit. "And didn't tell me? Who's the mom?"
My dad's phone rang, saving him. Zeus wanted to have a conversation with him. About what, I could care less.
Alex looked back at me.
"Who's your mom?"
"Sally B... Jackson." I corrected myself as I knew a divorce was going to happen. "Sally Jackson. Why?"
His jaw dropped.
"I'm going to kill her."
"Don't touch my mother. What has she ever done to you?"
"That makes me your uncle." Alex filled me in and sat down. "which is fine. Aside the fact that I had no idea that your mom ever had a kid. She stopped talking to us. Not long after your parents got together, really. Into her own world. Mom and Dad... The three of us... We tried calling her year after year. Gave up at five years. She changed numbers.
"My grandparents died in a plane crash."
Alex shook his head.
"They're here for the 4th." Alex told me. "We rent a cabin. Minotaunk. A really nice place. Have you ever been there? Were only there once a year. But you guys are always free to go."
"Uh... Yeah." I assured him. "We used to go all the time. We still do. Just not as often. She—"
Suddenly a woman and a man showed up. A male mom and another mom. Not literally. But you could tell they were the other triplets.
"What did—"
"Oh my gods, it's a little Poseidon."
I gave them smile.
They all sat down next to me as I sat up a little more on my bed. It wasn't comfy by any means.
"You wouldn't believe it, guys." Alex told them as they sat down. "Sally and Poseidon had a kid."
"Two." I corrected Alex. "I have a twin brother but he's not here. I don't think. He's probably went home."
"You're..."
My grandparents showed up.
And this was just something else for them. Because they find out they're grandparents. And then that my mom wasn't dead. Because that's what they thought. And I assured them that she was fine.
You know, she's managed. On her own. Just with me. Having twins. Having to adopt one out. He came back, though.
I did tell them that they were great grandparents, also. Not how I wanted to, of course. They both came running in, saying that papa wasn't being nice. Nico was being a big meanie.
"What is he doing?" I asked them.
"He not let us eat dessert!"
I looked at the door, where Nico was.
"They won't eat dinner." He defended himself. "I told them that if they eat at least a little bit of everything they picked, they can have dessert. They haven't touched their food yet."
I rolled my eyes.
"Can I have dessert?" Paris asked Sarah, my aunt.
"Well that depends." Sarah told her. "Have you had dinner?"
"No..."
"Then no."
"Aw, come on." Grandma of course wanted to give in. "They're adorable. Who are you guys?"
"I'm Paris!"
"I'm Patrick!"
They gave everyone a ridiculous smile that just made everyone laugh. I love these kids so much I can't... I mean, I can't leave them and walk out. I couldn't do that.
Patrick points at me.
"And that's Daddy!"
My mom walked in. And Paris took her turn.
"And that's Gramma!"
Everyone store at my mother.
"I'm a grandparent." My grandmother stated. "And I'm only finding out now because...?"
"You're a great grandma."
