Once again, I was drained. Running on an empty stomach, haven't had drank a decent amount of water in days. Literally days. I cursed myself for not packing food in my duffel bag.
As soon as I was sure I had left that other Alphas territory and probably more, I began to walk. Running was simply too much for me right now and my wolf was exhausted. I cursed myself again for not running in wolf form more often.
Though I was in a forest surrounded by trees, one in particular stood out. It was a tall one. One that looked like it had a lot of shade in the scorching heat that was engulfing my body.
I shifted back into human form and put on another pair of leggings and a generic plain white top. I laid my duffel bag over my legs as I sat down and put my body weight against the tree. As soon as I did that, my eyes couldn't help but flutter closed. I blocked everything out. I blocked out my extreme hunger, my dry throat, and my tiredness. I slept. Or maybe I passed out.
All I know is I was woken up by loud and hateful snarling. I peeked one eye open slowly to seen that there were four large wolves surrounding me, threatening to come close and tear me to godamn shreds.
"For fucks sake," I mumbled, opening both eyes and jumping to my feet. The wolves snarled again.
"Please," I started, opting for the helpless girl approach. "I've been on the run for days...I'm hungry and tired."
Not one of the wolves looked sympathetic, none of them looked like they had even heard me.
"I don't want to die..." I cried. "At least not now..."
An ear perked up.
"Please. Please bring me to your dungeons. I'll die there...you won't even have to feed me. I'll let myself die there..."
Then by the grace of God, one of them shifted into human form. A good looking man, with washboard abs and dark hair.
"We know who you are," he said putting on is shorts. His voice was low and viscous.
I was only slightly alarmed. "What do you mean?"
"Alpha Ryder is looking for you."
"I know," I shook my head, allowing fake tears to fully break through from my eyes. "I made a mistake I'll never be able to take back."
He looked down towards me with no empathy. "You'll pay your mistakes as soon as our Alpha gives us the go ahead to send you back. It'll be quick too, Ryder's giving out $3,000 to anyone who brings you back soon."
"Aha!" I said out loud stupidly. I knew I was worth something to that son of a bitch. The number was quite low though, I had about that much in my duffel bag.
"Take me then," I succumbed. There was no use of acting helpless anymore if they knew who I was. They knew I wasn't typically a helpless little girl. And also quite frankly, I'd rather save my "helpless girl card" for a better situation. Perhaps when I was actually near death. Right now in my books, I was sitting pretty. I'd find a way to outsmart them eventually.
The most important thing to do now was to finesse an actual meal from them. I was starving. I think literally.
"You're willing?" He asked taking both my arms and pining them behind me.
"More than willing."
He twisted my arms painfully and held them in place as we walked. I suppressed a groan in pain. It was then I noticed that the other wolves were gone. "Your little wolf friends are gone?"
