I was tying my hair back when I heard a knock sound from the bedroom. "I'll be out in second," I called out to Jax. "I'm finishing up."I looked myself in the mirror one last time, making sure everything was in place. It was important that I atleast attempted to look my best, I was going out in public for the first time in...2 weeks? Does the party count as public? God, it's been too long.
The best case scenario for today was that Jax gained trust in me for not acting up in public, and then from there, built more trust in me, to the point where I could go on runs by myself, and eventually leave.
The knocking on the door became impatient as I rushed into the room, happy to greet Jax.
"Hey," I said opening the door cheerfully. Though I was scheming, I was still genuinely happy to get some fresh air.
Though when my eyes met the green ones I've learned to despise, my smile faltered to a deep frown.
"Where's Jax?" I asked, now expressionless and monotoned.
"Busy," he said minimally, the word coming out like silk.
"I saw him earlier though..."
"You've been spending too much time with him," he revealed grimly. "I don't trust him to take you out in public either."
"Who are you to tell me who to associate with?" I questioned, annoyed.
"Your Alpha, perhaps?" He gritted his teeth like he wanted to say more.
I sighed in mock content. "At least you didn't say mate."
He seemed like he wanted to remark with something as his eyes darkened quickly. He closed his eyes attempting to clear the emotion from them.
"Jax said that you were planning to escape soon."
I scolded myself. I new it was too early to trust Jax with that type of information. I should've known.
"You're not leaving, Eve," he said after some silence. "You can't."
"So now you're holding me hostage?"
"I can't hold my own mate hostage," he said with dark eyes. "It doesn't work that way."
My wolf was rejoicing at him referring to us as "his mate" but I was not having it. Not now.
"Stop calling me your mate," I said irritably. Maybe I was being over dramatic, I don't care. I was going to be upset with him as long as I could. He deserved it.
"But that is exactly what you are," He gritted his teeth again. "Scientifically speaking, at least." He muttered under his breath, probably forgetting that I have wolf hearing as well.
"Mates don't leave each other to suffer," I remarked, ignoring his last comment.
"Mates don't have sex with multiple people before meeting their mate."
"You left me in the cellar for hours suffering because you're mad about me having sex with other people?" I couldn't believe him.
"No," he said, giving me no explanation. He closed his eyes, blinking back emotion. "Let's go now."
I didn't say anything as I closed the door behind me and followed him in the elevator, through the main room, out the door and to the nice black sports car that was waiting outside.
