I guess it's funny how things work out. I used to want Ryder, Ryder pushed me away for his mate, then I met Kal, and Kal pushed me away for...nothing I guess.

But if there's one thing I knew, (or at least I hoped I knew) it was that things would end up the way they were supposed to.

I didn't know when I had begun developing this mentally, because to be honest, weeks ago, I would've said that things did not work out the way they're supposed to on their own, and it was the persons job to ensure things happen the way they wanted. But I had been feeling...different.

My mind focused back to what was going on around me. My heart picked up with fear, and anticipation at the words that Ryder spoke through the phone.

"You're not getting her back," Kal growled into the phone.

"You don't understand," Ryder continued. "Do you know where she is? Tell me, right now."

"You think you get to request her dead then come back looking for her?" Kal scoffed into the device. "You're fucking wrong."

"Listen, Alpha Kalthius," Ryder spat mockingly into the phone. "You wouldn't understand what it's like to feel something for anyone, would you? You sick, lonely, bastard."

"You and I both know that If I declared war on your pack right now, you would be torn to shreds," Kal growled. "Don't say something you'll regret."

"I wouldn't regret looking for my Eve," he spat again. "How I miss those eyes, her curves, how she made any man bubble up with desire-"

Kal snarled, his eyes as dark as outside had become. He looked me over, eyes taking each inch of my body, claiming it as his with his mind.

"I'll fucking kill you," Kal snarled.

"You're overreacting, like you always do," Ryder growled into the phone. "She's not your fucking mate, so stop bitching about it, and tell me if you've heard her whereabouts."

Kal snapped.

I shook my head, slowly. Knowing this was not good for Ryder. He had pushed Kal over the edge.

"Eve, is my mate. You good for nothing, wreck of an alpha," Kal spat. "Make me come there, Ryder. I dare you."

The room went quite and my heart beat faster then it had ever before.

"Bullshit," Ryder yelled into the receiver. "That's fucking bullshit."

"I suggest you stop looking for Eve before we work things out the way we had to years ago," Kal seethed. "She's not yours, so back the fuck up and learn your place mut."

I could hear Ryder practically shaking with rage from the phone. No alpha tolerated being called a mut.

"This is not over," Ryder growled, pretending for a brief moment that Eve was his mate. "There's no fucking way she'd ever choose you over me. I had her heart first....and many other things first. The second she can, she'll come crawling back to me, where I will fuck her like the good old days-"

I rushed to the trash can where my last meal fought it's way back up my throat. The combined stress, headache and Ryder's words had made me want to throw up for days.

Kal threw the phone onto the wall, watching it shatter into a thousand pieces, before coming to me, to hold my hair out of my face. I felt him rub small circles into my back, gently, though I could tell that he was beyond angry at the moment.
