When I woke up, I had half been expecting to still be in the woods, with Kal's arm wrapped around me.

But instead I woke up in an empty bed, in a room that smelled heavily of Kal with a note left on the dresser:

Eve,

If you have woken up, go back to sleep. I've gone to collect breakfast.

And just as I had finished reading the note, I heard the downstairs door swing open, and footsteps sound throughout the large house.

"Eve," he called out from downstairs. "Are you awake?"

"No," I called back, pushing the blankets that were around me off of my body and standing up. I cringed as my feet eventually hit the cold floor of the stairs, and immediately made a mental note to ask Kal for socks.

"So you are awake," Kal said rusting around with some of the plastic bags that seemed to come with the food he brought.

"You caught me," I smiled sarcastically, my fingers inching towards the bags he brought already. "What did you get?"

"Breakfast."

"Gee, thanks," I said sarcastically again. I reached inside one of the to-go-containers and pulled it out. Inside were pancakes, a lot of them. "Pancakes?"

"Well yeah, but the other containers are filled with eggs, sausage, bacon, and hash browns." He opened each of the different containers to prove his words. "You can start eating, I'm going to go shower."

"Okay," I said as he walked past me and towards the staircase. I heard as his loud footsteps patted as he climbed all the stairs and disappear into his large bedroom, that I was just laying in minutes ago.

It felt like no more than five minutes before he re-emerged down stairs, hair wet and pants loosely around his waist. I tried not to stare at his abdomen like I always did when he was shirtless.

"Ready to go?"

"What?" I swallowed a piece of bacon gingerly. "Go where?"

"Back to the pack house," he said, as if he wasn't sure why I was confused. "To finish work...?"

"Oh," I said. I didn't realize we were going back there again today. "Okay."

"You don't have to go if you don't-"

"I'll go," I said. "But I'm not finished eating."

"Take it with you," he pushed a to-go container towards me. "Pack what you like."

Next thing I knew, we were entering the loud pack house and making our way upstairs. We were in the elevator when I had a realization.

"Kal," I started.

"Yes," he responded, barely paying attention to me.

"It's almost been a month."

"From what?" He asked, feet leading him out of the elevator and into his office. I followed quietly behind.

"Since heat."

He stopped.

He turned to me, closing the door behind me as  I entered the office. "Already?"

"I guess," I shrugged. But I could feel my heart beat with anticipation. He wouldn't do what he did last time, right? "I think we have a week. I can't remember the exact date from last month."

"Eve," he sighed putting his hands in his hair tiredly. "We need to-"

Jax bursted through the door without a single knock.
