When I woke up, I wished I didn't. My body was sore, my head was pounding and the skin all over my body looked red and irritated. That was no doubt the worst night of my life. It was the worst pain I had ever endured too. And Kal had left me to suffer through it alone. For what?

I shivered as I reflected on the previous night, the scorching pain, the blood curdling screams that were met to no rescue, the heartbreak...I closed my eyes as I shook my head, trying my best not to think about it and relive the horrible memories. Bile threatened to climb from my throat as I thought of the pain.

It was then I could heard the lock outside my door being fumbled with, I breathed out in relief as I thought of perhaps someone coming to save me.

The door opened, and in walked a skeptical Jax with worried eyes. He averted his eyes from my body, which was...still half naked.

"Jax," I tried to exclaim, but it barely came out. My voice had become raspy from screaming so much.

He only gave me a small smile as he crouched to unlock me.

"I thought you died," he said once I was unlocked. "You would scream for hours and then all of a sudden go quiet just to start the cycle again."

"And to think it all could've been prevented..."

His typical hard expression changed. He looked sorry for me. "I know, I tried to get him to...I don't know Eve, he just isn't...he wants to...I don't know."

"It's fine," I said wincing as I attempted to stand up. I couldn't. "Help me, please?"

He immediately reached under me to help bring me up to a standing position. Even that small movement put my body in a throbbing pain. My body was truly aching.

"I don't think I'll be able to walk on my own...." I trailed, genuinely concerned.

He said nothing for about 15 seconds before he came to an conclusion. "I'll call Kal to carry you upstairs-"

"No," I cut him off, "I'd rather take 4 hours crawling up the stairs than allow him to put a hand on me."

It's because I knew damn well that I was outraged at him, and I knew even better that the second he put his arms around me to carry me upstairs, I may not be able to stay mad.

"Okay," he said. "I'll carry you upstairs."

He took me in his arms, carrying me bridal style upstairs, where we could take the elevator. He didn't say anything to me, and I didn't say anything either. I only listened to his steady heartbeat, in attempt to calm myself down.

My wolf didn't like being this close to another male, but I had choice but to take the help that was being given by Jax and appreciate it.

Jax swung open my door and immediately went to place me on my bed, before quickly removing his hands from me.

"You should sleep," he said, making his way to the door. "Dr. Terrence will come check up on you in a few hours, to make sure you're okay."

I nodded my head even though his back was towards me, leaving. As soon as I heard he door shut, I let my eye lids flutter closed. But I couldn't sleep.
