The story is set on the episode "The Other Side" from season 4.

(Y/N) had chosen to stay behind, she hadn't gone with the others to the bunker they had discovered. She wanted to go, but chose not to. She convinced herself that life on Earth was too much for her and so she had stayed. But she knew that wasn't her real reason, it was Jasper.

Jasper Jordan. The boy she'd been friends with since the Ark. The goggle boy. The boy she liked. The boy who had refused to go to the bunker. The boy who had made tea so that everyone who had stayed behind could die without pain.

The girl was sitting at a table, staring at the tea that Jasper had given her as he handed the drink to everyone there. They didn't hesitate to drink it, but she didn't feel excited or relieved as the rest of those people seemed to be. She was afraid, regretting being there, but she couldn't go back.

She took the mug in her hand as Jasper sat down next to her, his own mug still full in his hand. He offers a small smile to her, making her heart skip a beat. How could she be so foolish for a boy? (Y/N) took the tea to her mouth, but she didn't let any drop in, lowering the mug again, sighing defeated. She couldn't do that.

"(Y/N)?" Jasper's voice sounded in his ears.

(Y/N) put the mug on the table again. Jasper mirrored her actions. "I can't do this." she whispered in a tearful voice. "I don't want to die."

"Why are you here, then?"

"I didn't want to die when I decided to stay." some tears streamed down her face, but she quickly wiped them away. "I just wanted to spend some more time with you. I don't know." the boy nodded, turning his gaze to his own tea.

Why she had thought it would be better to stay there? She had spent more time with him, but they would die anyway. Maybe, deep down, she had hoped she wouldn't have to see Jasper dying in front of her, whether it was radiation or an overdose. But the only way she wouldn't see it would be if she died first.

(Y/N) looked determinedly at the tea in front of her. She had chosen to stay there. She couldn't escape it now, could she? The girl was about to get her mug again, this time to actually drink the tea inside it, but as he realized what she was going to do, Jasper pushed the mug off the table, knocking it to the floor.

She looked confused at the boy, who was looking at her too. "I don't want you to die either."

(Y/N) felt a warm sensation go through her body with his words, making a small involuntary smile appear on her face.

He stared at her for a few seconds, secretly memorizing her face since that would probably be the last time he would see her, before leaning over to give her a quick kiss. Well, if he was going to die, he at least wanted to have one last good memory.

(Y/N) smiled at him as he pulled away from her. Maybe she could escape it after all. Escape it with him. "You should go find Monty." Jasper said taking his mug and standing up. "He'll get you out of here."

Her smile faded when she saw him walking away from her. Wouldn't he go with her? The feeling of despair passed through her body. The girl soon stood up, going after him. "Come with us."

"I can't, (Y/N)." he didn't even look at her, walking toward the exit.

"C'mon, listen to me!" she hurried to grab the boy's arm and turn him to her. "This doesn't have to be the end. You... You can get better. We can help you... Me, Monty..." he shook his head at her as he stared at the tea in his hand. "I love you."

That seemed to get his attention, making him look up at her. The boy gave her a small sad smile. "You can't save me." he muttered, making the desperation she felt only increase.

Jasper looked back at his mug, looking one last time at (Y/N) before before starting to bring it toward his mouth. But the girl had been quicker, pressing her lips to his, seeming to catch him by surprise. She wrapped her arms around his neck, bringing him closer to her. She needed to feel him close to her. She needed to know he was alive.

(Y/N) had started to take out all the desperation and fear of losing him in that kiss, moving her lips furiously in his, feeling the boy start to kiss her back. And then she felt the mug fall from Jasper's hand as he held her waist, also pulling her closer to him, taking out all the repressed feelings he had.

"Wow." he murmured breathlessly as they pulled away, still wrapped one in the other's body.

She was about to say something when she heard a few noises behind her. People choking. She didn't dare look back to see what was happening, though she knew it very well. She noticed that Jasper was staring at the scene behind her, he looked away quickly to look at the mug he had dropped and then looked back behind her.

"Jasper?" she called him out, wanting to get out of there as she heard the gasps stop, along with the people's breathing.

The boy looked at her again, seeing the fear still in her eyes. He squeezed her waist before nodding slightly. "Let's find Monty."

A feeling of relief went through her as she took her arms from Jasper, wanting to get out as fast as she could from Arkadia. The boy held her hand, looking one last time at the dead bodies in the room, and then walking out the hall to find his best friend as the girl's words echoed in his head. That didn't have to be the end. He could get better.
