***Max***

I sat back in my chair during our meeting. With quiet reservation, I listened to our accounts executive lead the meeting on requirements for upcoming campaigns with our prospective clients. I watched as the team at the table looked through the portfolios before them as they were led though the objectives. My gaze is as focused on Todd the Accounts Executive as my mind is on my phone in my breast pocket. That hasn't buzzed yet.

I shifted slightly in my chair as the thought occurred to me. It hasn't buzzed yet. Was she upset? Was she still asleep? My gaze shot up to the clock and I noticed that two hours had already passed. This nagging sensation began in my head. Text her. I mean what will it hurt? I am just checking to see if she is o.k.

I take a deep breath. Who am I kidding? I am texting to see if she is pissed off with me.

I casually lean back and look up to watch Todd continue to pace as he addresses everyone with a confident stare while he continues to present measurable objectives for the campaign. I lower my gaze briefly to my screen and notice there is still no missed calls or messages from her. I tapped out quickly a message and sat back anxiously for a reply.

"Beautiful?"

A couple of hair raising minutes later her response buzzes through as Todd points out the marketing background of the campaign.

"Hey Champ," She replies.

A sense of relief washed over me.

"How are you feeling?"

"I'm good. Very well restedJ"

Immediately I smiled.

"I'm glad to hear that. Have you eaten yet?"

I sat back and waited for her reply.

I looked up briefly to listen to Todd finalize the meeting. Deep down, I felt guilty for the distraction and not paying attention at all but I was comforted with the idea that it was recorded and I could go back and watch it. I lowered my gaze to my phone again and noticed she didn't reply. I frowned.

"Babe?"

"I tried...but..."

"But?"

"The Cob salad I ate is probably

floating in the Hudson river"

Confused I stared at the text. What did she mean by that? Before I could respond, the meeting was over and everyone began to standup to leave. Right away I put away my phone and stood to leave too. I took a quick look at the clock and noticed it was already Three o'clock. We filed out of the conference room. I immediately walked towards my office but was stopped by Gladys as she passed me a memo.

Detective Dowell

Left message on your voicemail.

Amanda is picking up Millie

I thanked her and quickly walked over to my office and to my desk to press my voicemail button. I sat back in my chair and listened.
