The evening traffic that glided alongside of us at a slow pace downtown had me tense. I tried in earnest to distract myself with the view just to not focus on my phone for the 5th time since I climbed in to the car.

My nerves were a bundled mess and my mind was spinning out of control thinking about her. And what happened today. What Rebecca did.

I had just gotten off of the phone with a long meeting. The only thing that held me up through it is the small conversation I held with Kira. I went back to work immediately combing over reports and sifting over files on my laptop. I'm barely aware of lunchtime passing by until I get a text from Kira then soon after Josh as he agreed to swing by so we can catch a quick bite to eat. I am so in my zone and caught up with the last case, that I forgot another report from advertising. I leaned over and grabbed the phone.

"Yes, Mr.Chase," the voice of my new intern, Gary, echoed over the line.

"Hey, Gary can you do me a favor and run up to advertising and get yesterday's report from Rebecca and after, you can go to lunch."

"Sure thing," he quips and I end the call.

I begin on a new account in the meantime and start typing away. I'm half way through and waiting on the report when a slight tap sounds on my door. I barely look up as I answered. I figured it was Gary returning with the report that I asked for.

"Just place it on the table Gary, and thanks," I said, occupied by the monitor in my face.

"It's not Gary, Mr. Chase," the soft voice of Rebecca pulls my gaze away from it. I look up and get a quick glance of her entering and closing the door. She greets me with a smile and holds up a vanilla folder.

"Gary said you needed this. I was on my way down here so I decided to bring it to you." She placed it on my desk.

"Thank you, Rebecca." I continued typing; lost in the steady pace of my work. I didn't realize she hadn't left until she slowly sat in the chair by my desk. I paused to look up at her. She looked lost herself. Her gaze wandered slowly the length of my office as if forlorn and waiting for me to acknowledge her.

"Is there something else you needed, Rebecca," I took the time to set aside what I was doing. I had to admit I was a little anxious for her to leave but I couldn't be rude and dismiss her.

She sat where she was and gazed at me steadily before tucking her lips between her teeth and lowering her gaze. The small gesture reminded me of Kira doing the same thing when she is plotting something mischievous or when she is shy about something she wants to tell me. In this case, I hoped it was the latter.

"Just wondering how everything was with you, Mr.Chase?" she smiled.

I frowned a little. "I'm good, thanks."

She smiles again. "Pretty soon you're going to have a baby and all, it must be scary," she sighs.

A small smile forms on my lips and my chest warms. "Yeah, you can say that," I pause. "But I am excited," I added.

"I take it Mrs. Chase is doing well?" she whispers slowly standing then. I feel at odds discussing Kira with her considering she can't stand the sight of Rebecca.

"She is doing good," I swallow and follow her as she slowly walks towards my far table that held a carafe of whisky and glasses.

I lean back in my chair watching her. I can't help the male instinct in me to follow the length of her legs to the curve of her... I tighten my eyes shut and look away mentally cursing myself for the thoughts I have no business thinking.
