Chapter 16

All of the paladins plus Allura followed Attis to his intended destination of the Cybeleion castle. Allura found herself glancing back at the lions in fear of leaving them by their lonesome. Frankly anything could happen to them. They fly away and get lost, or the Keres destroy them, or they will really be hit by horrible luck and Zarkon will show up out of nowhere; snatching the black lion and all the others for good measure.

"Lady Allura, I promise no harm will come to your saviours of metal," Attis didn't have to peer behind him to tell that the Altean princess was distraught, "The Barrier of Sheaf is well extended even past the River of Sangarius. No one who is not invited can enter. We use to free roam our areas until the war began decades ago."

"No need for the formalities Attis. Just call me Allura."

Attis nodded, "Of course, Allura."

"How did this war begin exactly," Hunk asked as he eyed a few berries they were passing with temptation.

"The Cybele roamed the lands of Lumiere on free will. Cultivating, harvesting, and expanding. All we wanted was a free nation and to thrive on to our better years of a golden age. All good things come to an end unfortunately," Attis ran his fingers over the small insignia that was laced with the skin on his arm, "Half of my ancestery, the Keres, came to invade our planet. This was unsuspecting to the Cybele. The Kere's home Koanus was destroyed by...by monsters who call themselves Galra, lead by Zarkon. Sucked the life right out of it."

Keith swallowed as he heard that dreaded name that haunted him and the rest of his team, but Attis continued his story all while approaching closer to the green fortress, "I am sure you all know who that villain is. After the Keres's arrival, the Cybele made peace speaks with them and everything was strange yet felt to be perfectly fine. They were willing to expand and share the lands with this new race who sadly lost their planet. That was until they began to possess our plants. At first we found it strange because of how attached they'd become over the span of just a few years to Lumiere's greenery. There were also concerns to our harvests. They began to deplete in yield over the course of time and the Cybele felt the after affects of famine. Suspicions were placed on the Keres's as raids began to steal their crops that they so greedily hoarded-"

"Well these plants do look delicious," Hunk nodded as he somehow managed to create an appealing handful of berries.

"Yes they are quite," Attis chuckled; it barely matched his appearance, his voice sounded almost like a prince of some sort, "To continue, the peace among the two races were now void. War began just like that. Battles fought, soldiers gained, and deaths ensued. Present time and both races are still at war. The Cybele created barriers and enhanced their magical skill while the Keres continue to feed off the lands with no reserve to gain an upper hand. They are impossible to stop."

"We will stop them," Shiro promised in his tone of certainty, "Impossible or not, we will."

"You all are very kind. I am glad that we just so happened to stumble upon the members of Voltron. Finally something can be done about this infestation," Attis turned behind to acknowledge all of them with a half smile.

After walking, wobbling for Attis, they all reached the huge wooden doors of the castle that was also made out of wood paneling and stone. Green and purple vines twirled up the sides like ivy would but everyone didn't know otherwise since they were not familiar with the plant life. With meticulously eyeing the workmanship of the door it was easy to match the engravings to the one that lay on Attis's arm.

"Is that a-," Pidge stroked her chin, "What is that?"

This is when Lance kicked himself out like when he played Pictionary, "Alright ready? It looks like a beetle with a blanket wrapped around its antennas! That's gotta be it."
