"There. I set up the last wire," Pidge declared as she applied a piece of tape over the needle that was promptly settled in the back of Lance's hand.
"I'm surprised this old space junk works," Shiro placed a firm grip onto the green paladin's shoulder with a smile, "Good work, Pidge. I can't believe Earth equipment was just laying around here."
"Yeah well it wasn't hard or anything. I just had to adjust the frequencies and rewire the panels a bit...," Pidge blushed slightly, ending her in depth elaboration abruptly; while adjusting her glasses, she turned back to the machine to tinker with it hoping to get the screen a little brighter.
"For once I can say that human medical treatments are very helpful," Allura twiddled with her fingers; she peered at Lance laying on his bed with wires strewn about, from the corner of her eye, "The healing pod gave up on him. With this machine, he can now get better."
"It's not definite but it will keep him stable," Pidge answered with a wrench in her hand as she tightened a few bolts, "Plus it will keep him hydrated unlike the healing pod."
As the others chattered, Hunk was sitting at the edge of Lance's bed with a stone cold expression as if he were hiding his fears and worries. It was an unlikely appearance to see such deep disdain lay about the normally giddy and funny young man. To see his friend like this was heartbreaking and he couldn't even tell Lance's mom since they were so far away from home. It felt wrong to not tell her. Leaning forward on his broad elbows he lightly brushed his finger tips around the chilled needle and sighed with slumped shoulders. A piece of his dark hair shifted in front of his face from the movement and the lack of his normal head gear. He was helpless to the point of not even being able to aid Pidge with the monitor. He just stared with a frozen posture, filled with shock to the worst degree.
"Hunk," Shiro knelt down next to the other, knowing he was taking this almost just as hard as Keith was, and spoke softly, "It's getting late. Would you like me to get anything from the kitchen for you?"
Hunk didn't speak for a moment because for once he wanted nothing to do with food which stunned even himself, "No thanks..."
Shiro bit his lip knowing that this wasn't like him, but it was to be expected, "Okay."
It was a never ending circle of change amongst the paladins as everyone hadn't seen the true full extent of Lance's injuries. They reflected not only from the inside of his body but were also mirrored from the weight of ultimate strain concealed inside the pod. His legs were swollen and bruises were scattered about his nose and neck from the lack of tanked oxygen. As Hunk's chocolate eyes scanned his friend some more, he lightly turned over Lance's wrists to see his green and blue veins prominently perturbed from the papery delicate skin.
"Please get better. Everyone is worried about you," Hunk finally spoke as his voice crackled from being held back from speaking for the time he had.
Between Hunk not speaking much, Allura's nervous ramblings, Pidge's need to tinker everything in sight due to the stress, Shiro trying to pull the team back together with anything and everything, and Keith depriving him from all human sustenance he needed in order to survive, no one knew how this would all turn out. Tensions were ultimately high but there was no time for bitter altercations due to unperceivable outcomes. Shiro was trying to do what was right and help his friends revert back to their old ways, but even that seemed almost impossible to accomplish. For now, he would take it one paladin at a time and Keith was his main concern. He wanted to let him rest but it would be pointless seeing that when he wakes up deprived of food he isn't going to want to get up from nausea.
