I quickly got ready and dressed into a casual clothing before going downstairs for breakfast. Something smelt amazing which was making me malnourished. As I walked into the kitchen the first thing I spotted was waffles. "Oh my goodness mum is this for me?!" I asked in shock. "Of course my darling it's a starter present from me." Mum announced. "You're the best!" I hugged mum and sat on the table right in front of a stack of freshly made waffles. I grabbed the maple syrup and poured it all over.
As I was stuffing my gob I couldn't help but notice the time 10am. "Mum the designers are gonna be at the rented out place to accessorise the place at 11!" Mum looked up at the clock before gasping. "Oh my! The time flew!" I laughed. "Probably because you were too busy making me this delicious and stuffing breakfast! Damn this is so good!"
One hour later...
"Alyssa! Lyra's here to see you!" Mum shouted. "Okay! Send her up!" I yelled back. The door opened and Lyra walked in. "Happy birthday girl!" Lyra screamed. While running up to me and hugging me. "Aww thank you!" I thanked. "Wait...Did you just shower?" Lyra asked. "Umm yeah it's still a bit wet I was gonna dry it but then you arrived." I replied. "Well don't let me distract you! Come on I'll help you!" Lyra spoke.
Hours flew by as Lyra helped me get ready and I looked amazing. She dried my hair and brushed it, she picked out a gorgeous and sparkly birthday dress for me, she tied my hair up leaving a few strands and curling them, then she done my make-up. What would I do without you Lyra I thought. "Girl I don't say this to many people but you look stunning!" Lyra hugged me and brought out a box. It was a blue box with a red ribbon tied on top.
"For me?" I asked as I looked Lyra in the eyes. "Of course it adds a finishing touch." I took the little blue box and took the lid of revealing a beautiful silver locket shaped in to a heart. I opened the locket only to see two pictures; one of me and Lyra and another saying best friends in gold colour. "Lyra...it's..it's beautiful." I spoke. "I know it is and I thought it would go perfect on you. I've got one too with the exact same filling but sadly it's not a necklace that links together or anything but I think it'll do the job." Lyra mentioned. I hugged Lyra so tight. "I...can't..breathe!" Lyra barely made out. "Oh sorry." Lyra gasped and caught her breath. "Here let me put it on." I stood in front of the mirror as Lyra took the necklace and walked behind me she put the necklace on me and it shone in the light. I was snapped out of how beautiful I looked when mum called for me.
"Coming!" I replied grabbing Lyra's arm and carefully walking downstairs. As I walked downstairs I felt like a queen mum and dad were staring at me in amazement. "My baby girl you look beautiful." Dad spoke. "Oh you look just like a princess how beautiful you are." Mum added. "Thank you all thanks to Lyra." I continued. "Lyra you are an amazing help without you I would've ended up going to my own birthday party like a clown." Lyra linked her arm in mine and responded. "Of course babe that's what best friends are for."
As we walked out the house into the car Lyra asked. "So you gonna keep an eye out for any cute boys?" I shuffled over in the car and scoffed. "Hah! Not a chance!" Lyra instantly replied in shock. "Oh come on! It's your sweet sixteenth you have to start seeing a boy some day!" My parents got into the car and I mouthed no.
On the way there dad decided to start a conversation. "Lyra... As gorgeous as you look and as happy as I am that it's your birthday. I'm just scared that you're growing up so fast and you might ditch your mother and I to live with a boy who will crush you. This is why I've been uncomfortable lately I want you to stay my baby girl forever." I looked through the rear view mirror to see the pain in my dads eyes. "I'll never leave you, I'll never stop loving you and for sure I won't ever stop being your baby girl but one thing I can't promise is that I won't grow up but change is good." Dad nodded and showed a weak smile.
