Felix's pov
Scott didn't let us turn back. There's danger both ways we go anyway and he'd prefer the dead over the living. He says the dead aren't smart but they are. They know where you are just by seeing, hearing or smelling you. They're smart enough to tell the difference between the living and the dead. You don't see two zombies trying to eat eachother do you?I don't know why we have to kill them. They're still people, trapped inside their own minds and replaced with a flesh eating monster on the outside. Maybe we can help them get out. A cure? The disease starts in the brain so what if we can stop it. Maybe theres a cell that triggers it.
But what if there isn't? What if everyone but me is infected and I'll live while everyone else dies around me? I don't want them to turn but maybe that's the best idea. To let them come back with a chance of living again if a cure is found. No, I can't let that happen. That would be selfish.
"There's the herd," Jack said from behind us in the car. Cry was driving, I was shotgun and Jack and Mark were in the back. His squeeky voice was a little annoying. I could change that if I- No! Don't even think that way Felix. It's the bite talking.
"Okay, Scott is stopping. You all know the plan; put something over the windows and stay quiet," Cry said, turning off the car. He was so bossy. I hate it! I hate him! Wait what? I don't hate him. I lo-.
"They're nearly here. Felix, cover your window, quick," Cry said, snapping me out of my thoughts. I nodded quietly and grabbed the edge of the blanket Mark had used on his window behind me, pulling the other half forward and stuffing it into the top of my window, closing the window after to hold the blanket up.
"Help me put this up would you Felix. Make sure it won't fall down either," Cry said quickly. He sounded a little on edge as the large herd of undead staggered towards us. I nodded and silently helped him put up the windscreen shade (forgot the actual name of it but thats close enough).
We fell silent as the groans of the zombies grew louder and they sounded like they were right outside the car. My breath came out long and low. I watched the shadows that were cast along the blankets of the lost people walking past.
I felt a hand grab mine and I turned to see Cry's hand gently laying on mine. I smiled and moved my fingers to interwind with his. I didn't care if Jack or Mark saw I needed the comfort. The touch of his skin.
A loud bang rang through the car and I turned to my window with a slight gasp. One of the zombies must have ran into the door or something. If we stay quiet we should be alright. If not then I could make a break for it. Pj didn't try to attack me so maybe these zombies wont. I can't say the same for the others but who cares about them. They'll die sooner or later anyway. Felix! No stop!
"I think we're halfway through the herd. But I'm not sure," Mark whispered quietly. I barely heard him as more loud bangs ran out. They began to get more and more consistant and I started to think this wasn't such a great idea after all. I mean, the windows are made of glass and might not with stand against a herd of undead.
Then a window smashed and a scream drowned out the groans and gargles that quickly neared. Jack desperately tried to pull away from a zombie that snapped and grabbed at him. Mark pulled out a gun and shot without hesitation. The gunshot rang out and my breath caught in my throught. They are attracted to noise...
"Shit! They're comming!" Cry shouted, trying to turn on the car. As the engine started another zombie reached through Jack's window and grabbed onto his clothed arm, scratching at the fabric. Jack squirmed out of the jacket he was wearing and shuffled towards Mark's side of the car. More bangs rang out and my window gave way next.
I stayed quiet as the zombie reached over me and tried to grab at Cry instead. With a moments hesitation I stabbed the undead person through the skull and pushed its lifeless body out the window, knocking over a group of zombies nearby. The car roared to a start and we tried to pull away but we were surrounded.
"What's going on back there?" Scott's voice called through the radio, quiet as he tried to make sure he didn't attract any attention to his vehical. I shuffled closer to Cry and away from my window.
"The window gave way. We're being attacked. We might not be able to hold them off," Cry called back through. Then his window gave away and a zombie leaned straight in. Time slowed as the creatures mouth opened and tried to bite into his shoulder.
I reacted quickly as I flung my hand over Cry's hunched back and grabbed onto the jaw of the snapping zombie. But my hand slipped on the rotten flesh and slid into its mouth. The thing bit down and blood poured down my hand. I bit my tongue to hold back a scream and sunk my blade into the creatures head. It fell lip and the grip on my hand loosened.
I pushed it out the window and pulled my hand back towards my chest. Jack saw the blood and gasped, pointing towards my bleeding hand to show Mark. Cry immediately sat up and held onto my hand, a worried look on his face.
"He's bit!" Jack cried out, yet still quiet. I shook my head and tried to explain that I was immune but a sudden wave of nausea washed over me and the car began to spin. I felt dizzy as my vision darkened and I passed out.
Bad situation to be in Felix. Very bad situation.
