Cry's pov
Russ explained what's been happening to Felix. So it was the bite that's been causing him to be out of it. Russ made a guess that, because his body and mind are trying to stop the bites infection from making him turn, he isn't completely on earth. His mind is too destracted. But even with Felix's condition, Scott wants everyone to come at once. More badits were spotted near the base while Russ was talking with me and Scott doesn't think this area is safe. So he's making us all leave as soon as possible.
Not everyone is happy about it but no one has objected so far. Just some grumpy mumbles and annoyed groans. If they don't like it they could stay here but they won't be guaranteed protection. Only their own skills and a backpack with supplies. No one took that option. Especially after loosing three people to the bandit camp.
"You should talk to Felix before we leave. He was feeling pretty guilty about earlier," Russ said over his shoulder. We were packing up the armory together and faced opposite sides of the room.
"Yeah, I'll talk to him as soon as we're done or Scott will go off his head at me," I laughed.
"You're the one who created this group. He can't tell you what to do. You should take charge back," Russ said, pulling out a crossbow and pretending to aim with it.
"Nah, I'm fine with being ordered around. Hate having so much responsibility really," I sighed.
"Yeah but you'd be a way better leader than him. No offense to Scott but when you were in charge no one questioned you and always supported your decisions. You should have seen how many arguments there was after you left with Chey. Man, Scott got his face punched in real good," Russ said, resting the crossbow on the bench.
"Really? Who did it?" I asked in disbelief.
"Only two people ever dared to do it. This idiot thats now dead and me," Russ said, pointing to himself proudly as he said the word 'me'.
"What happened to the idiot?" I asked. I didn't bother asking about Russ because him and Scott always have scraps. Even when I was in charge here.
"He tried to knock Scott of his feet and pulled a gun on him. Scott had better reflexs and the guy ended up shot in the leg. Red fixed him up and we sent him on his way. A scout was sent out a few days later and he was found dead less than half a kilometre out from the base," Russ explained.
"I tought him to do that," I laughed.
"What, shooting guys in the leg?" Russ asked with a smirk.
"Well, yeah but. I tought him not to kill the living unless nescassary. If they do bad in the group then banish them. Make a good example to people and not one of a killer," I said, remembering my own words. Words someone else had told me long ago.
"Nice. Good quote to follow," Russ said. The room fell silent before a banging at the door sounded. Me and Russ exchanged glances before running to the door. I cautiously opened it to see Snake with his usual expression.
"What has he done this time?" I sighed. Snake pointed towards the treeline near the base and I saw a few people standing around two figures. Felix and... a zombie. "Oh for god sakes."
We ran over to the group and I pushed my way to the front. Everyone was standing a far distance from Felix and the zombie but something didn't seem right about the two. The zombie wasn't attacking Felix and he was standing right infront of the thing.
"Felix?" I asked cautiously. He was silent for a while, only the sound of the zombies gargles and the occasional shuffle of feet. Then he spoke.
"I knew him. As a human. He was one of my closest friends in the UK." The tall dark haired zombie twitched and made a noise. "His name was Pj. We used to have fun and play together all the time. You remember him don't you Ken?"
"Yeah. He was a great friend," Ken said sadly. I could see the sadness all over his face.
"I got him killed. I killed him. He was just trying to help and I pushed him. I didn't know he was going to slip," Felix said, actually touching the torn bloodstained shirt of the zombie Pj. How was he not being attacked yet?
"What do you mean Felix?" Ken asked hesitantly.
"He wanted to change the bandages on my ankle but I refused. He tried insisting and I got angry. I didn't know the bite would affect me like that and I didn't know I was immune..." Felix trailed off.
"What happened?" I dared to ask.
"We were three stories up. Three stories above the ground, near a giant fucking glass wall.... he fell all that way." Felix was clearly having a hard time talking about all this so I decided to cautiously take a step forward.
The blood covered Pj immediately turned to me and started to stumble my way. I reached for my knife but Felix had already grabbed onto Pj's shoulder and spun him around, stabbing him directly through the skull.
He removed his knife and the lifeless body fell to the ground with a thud. Felix sat down next to the body and stared at it. I looked around to see that only Russ, Ken and I were left standing by him. Russ had told everyone else to leave.
"Felix?" I cautiously approached him.
"I don't want that to happen to you. I can't let it happen to you," He sobbed. I quickly closed the gap between us and pulled him into an embrace. He sobbed into my chest as I ran my hand through his hair.
"It's okay. It won't happen to me, I promise. I will make sure that doesn't happen," I whispered to him. He nodded in my chest and wrapped his arms around me tightly. A whisper of words left his mouth before we were left in silence again.
"Thankyou."
Me: Well then. That was a little dramatic Felix.
Felix: HE WANTED TO FLY!
Me: No... just. No
