Chapter 23

"Hey, Y/NN." I heard someone whispered and I can feel a hand tapping my shoulder lightly but I decided to ignore it and continue my sleep.

It didn't even took long when they whispered again and shake my body gently. I didn't even budge and hug my blanket closer to my body, "Wake up, Y/NN. Wake up!"

They place their hands on my shoulder and shake me vigorously. I groaned and slowly flutter my eyes open, I almost had a heart attack when I saw how Luke's face is so close to mine. "Good morning," He greeted and gave me face eating grin. I noticed that he's wearing a suit and not a lab coat. Where is she going?

I sit up and lean my back on my couch and closes my eyes briefly. "Why did you wake me up? It's my day off," I husked out.

I place the tips of my fingers on my temples and started rubbing it. God, my hang over is starting to kick in. I don't know how I got back to my office after I run out of Luke's apartment and went to the place where Lauren and I used to go and hung out. I lost count on how may beers I emptied out. I don't know how many cans I've crushed and I don't know how long I was crying last night, thinking about this man standing in front of me and how lucky he is to spend the rest of his life with the woman that I love.

"I know, but I have a question." Luke said and slumped down next to me. I glance at him and raise both of my eyebrows at him, urging for him to continue. "Do you hate our residence?" He chuckled and run his fingers through his hair.

"What?"

"I know you live at the same building that I do, I saw you several times walking down the hall but I didn't get any chance to call you and invite you for some dinner." The blonde Aussie said and I nodded my head at him. "Plus I heard from your team that you've been sleeping here in your office, almost every night."

"I'm more comfortable here than my apartment." I lied. I cannot tell him that I don't want to go back to my place and see him and Lauren being sweet and shit.

"Well, okay then." He taps the side of my leg and stand up. "Now go and take a shower. I'm sure you've heard that we have meeting with the other doctors in this state at the other side of the town, so let's go together?"

"Okay," He gave me a smile and I watch him walk out of my office. I whine and lay back on my couch.

I don't want to go but I have to.

I place my elbow on the window of Dr. Hemmings' car and lean my head on the palm of my hand as I try to catch some sleep again. We just left the hospital fifteen minutes ago and our meeting will start in thirty minutes, I still have time to sleep.

Moments later, I felt a nudge on my side and my head almost fall off when I reopen my eyes and saw Luke laughing while handing me a bag. "Here," As I take it from his hand, I saw a tumbler. "It's a fish soup." He told me. "Last night, Lauren... You know her right? The woman from nine-one-one and the who you saved, she made that one." The Aussie said while smiling widely.

I twist the lid open and as I was going to taste it and drink it, Luke decided to ask me a question. "Oh right, before I forgot, why did you left my apartment last night and didn't even told me? I asked Lauren if she saw you and she told me she didn't see anyone went inside because she was busy cooking but she was sure that someone walked inside, and she thought it was me. Then disapperead," He look at me then look back at the road.

"Oh, sorry." I mumbled. "I thought you had a guest and that I was going to interfere something."

"That's fine but I invited you last night, that means it's okay for you to come over. And Lauren is not just a guest," His fce started to lit up as soon as he nentions her name. "She's going to be a family member. In just a few months, we will get married, she will be my wife soon." I can see how happy he is as he informed me. "I wish you could've met Lauren as my fiancée last night and not just a stubborn rescue worker." The nuero doctor said.
