CHAPTER TWENTY TWO

Lara's

I woke up in the middle of the night feeling thirsty. I took my phone from the bedside table to check if Dominic had texted already, but to my dismay there's none. I got up from bed and went down to the kitchen to get my self a glass water.

I was drinking when I heard the front door open and some footsteps. Then I saw Tatay Berting going up the stairs carrying some luggage. I walk out of the kitchen and was surprise to see my father walking.

"Dad!" I greeted him excitedly and went to hugged him. "I thought you can't make it? Are you hungry? Gusto mo bang ipaginit kita Ng food dad?"

"No I'm not hungry." He replied. "It's a good thing you're here, I'm having a meeting tomorrow. Come with me."

"You want me to go with you?" I asked again.

"Yes." He answered and leave.

I was so excited about the meeting dad and I are going. I mean, this the first time for a very very long time he asked me to go with him. I know it's about work but still, my father asked me to come with him.

That's why I was up as early as five in the morning. I'm a bit worried because Dominic isn't answering or texting back on me. But I thought he's just busy with his parents. I'll just call him later again.

After taking a shower, I prepared my self. I wore a plain light yellow knee length dress and Paired with my white heels. I wanted to look simple yet elegant.

I went down right away and prepared our breakfast. I asked for nanay Bebeth's help so it would be faster.

"Good morning kuya! Wait, I'll get your coffee." I greeted my brother and took his coffee. "Here you go."

"Why are you up early? And dressed? May pupuntahan ka ba? Maybe I could drop you off?"

"No, kuya it's okey, I'm going with dad. We're meeting someone."

"Who?" Kuya Larry asked me with a knotted forehead.

"I don't know yet. Bussiness associate maybe. He didn't mention it last night."

"You don't have to go. I can come with him Lar."

"It's okey. I really miss dad and this is the first time he asked me out again for I don't know how long." I answered smiling.

"But-"

"Lara are you ready?" What kuya supposed to say was cut off by the baritone voice came from his back.

"Good morning dad!" I greeted him smiling. "I'll get you some coffee."

"No need. We have to go."

"Don't you want to have breakfast?"

"No. We're running late."

"Who are you meeting dad?"kuya Larry interrupted.

"It's none of your bussiness Larry."

"I can go with you instead of Lara." Kuya Larry stood up from his chair.

"I don't need you. Go to the office and do your work. I heard there's a delayed shipping materials from London. Fix it!"

"I can handle it later. I'll go with you."

"I said no!" Dad's voice roared. "Let's go Lara!"

I picked my purse and phone from the table and walked hurriedly. "I'll be fine kuya." I whisper to his ear and kissed his cheek.

"Call me if something went wrong." He said to me.

I didn't understand what he's talking about but I nodded.

"LARA!!!" I heard dad shout.

"Coming dad.... I have to go." I said to kuya.

We're here in a fine restaurant sitting in a table for four. I'm sure dad's meeting some investors. Maybe he wanted me to know about how it work in our company. Well if this the only way I can be with him often, I'm more than willing to learn.

Dad's reading a news paper while sipping on his coffee.

"Dad, how's your trip last night? How France?" I tried to start a conversation.

"Fine." Maikling sagot nito.

"Oh... Okey naman po ba ang branch natin dun?"

"Yes Lara, can you please quit asking questions, I'm trying to read here." Mainit ang ulo na sagot nya.

"I'm sorry po." I mumble and turned my attention to my food.

Siguro may jetlag pa sya from his trip last night. I took my phone from my purse and compose a text.

Ako:

Hi mine! Good morning! Ba't di mo sinasagot mga text ko? Busy ka ba? Mine, Baka may ibang babae ka na dyan ha, kaya nakalimutan mo na ako. Malapit na akong magtampo mine! Palagi pang naka patay ang phone mo, everytime tatawag ako. Text me back mine ha. I'm with my dad now, we're having a bussiness meeting. I miss you mine! Love you!

I press send button ang put back my phone. Not a minute later a very elegant lady caught our attention. With her is a young man with a big tummy, maybe his about my age but his so big. Feeling ko, pag umupo sya sa upuan ay sasalampak nalang sya bigla sa sahig. Hindi na normal ang laki nya.

Dad rose from his chair and greeted them. "Good morning Mrs. Hwang, it's a pleasure to have you here. This is my daughter, Lara."

"Good morning ma'am." I politely said.

"Good morning Mr. Torres, and to you my dear. This is my only son and the future owner of Hwang Company. Kyuri Hwang." Said the lady with the Chinese accent.

The guy just nodded his head to us and smiled. He has braces all over his teeth, plus he's wearing a very thick eye glasses. Sa tingin ko puputok na yun butones Ng polo shirt nya.

Anyare sa mamang to? Napabayaan sa kusina?

Dad motion everyone to sit, he pulled a chair for the lady and waved at waiter for the order. And I was shocked when the guy almost ordered everything on the menu.

Gosh! Saan nya nalang yan ilalagay?

We eat our food and my father and mrs. Hwang are talking mostly about bussiness.

I focus on my food, not minding the person in front if me eating faster as if someone might took them from him.

Then suddenly dad drop the bomb that could make me deaf for a couple of seconds.

"So Mrs. Hwang I really think our children is a perfect match. We should schedule their wedding date." I immediately look at dad to see if he's serious then I froze when I caught him looking at me smiling.
