"Hello Sir Ryan." I say while grabbing his arm.
"You look good, almost queen worthy." he comments. "There is going to be a progression line, so sadly you do not have a choice for where you sit, but I believe you will make the best of it. We will wait until you are called, I will escort you to your seat, then I will leave and stand in the back of the room."
"Okay I think I got it. What part of New York County are you from?"
"Just outside of Manhattan, you?"
"I am in Manhattan." I say smiling, it's nice knowing someone gets the huge change. "How long have you worked here?"
"About four years, this would be my fifth year."
"You started at sixteen?" I say astonished.
"Seventeen, but yea."
"Why so early?"
"They needed a draft of guards, no one knew why, but I happened to be called."
"Right," I say remembering Owen excused for it for his injuries. We make our way to where the line of girls are. Then we stand behind a petit girl with dirty blond hair named Summer, and a girl with strawberry blond highlights in her blond hair named Poppy. Summer is wearing a peach colored ballgown that goes to the floor, and hugs at the waist. It has spaghetti straps and she wears lace up heels. Poppy is wearing an off the shoulder skater dress, that is all black. She also has really cute ballet flats on, that are also black. They both show the two extremes of dresses. Summer starts to walk away as I realize I will be called next.
"Miss Saige Elizabeth Montgomery, twenty, New York County." Chrissy calls out. I straighten myself out and put on my best smile, then fallow Sir Ryan's lead. I keep my right hand by my side, my left in Ryan's arm, and pray I don't trip. I was holding on to Ryan so tight, he looked at me, making sure I was okay. I make quick eye contact with the King and Queen, and a tad longer eye contact with Prince William. Ohmigosh his eyes.... they are like a blueberry, that perfect dark blue color. And they look amazing next to his tanned skin and fawn colored hair. I think he takes after his mother who also has fawn hair and tanned skin, but she has hazel eyes. His father has dirty blond hair and blue eyes, so that's probably where he gets his stellar eyes.
I sit next to Summer, and wait with good posture until Poppy comes down next to me. No doubt this will also be on The Update. After each of the girls sits down, the reporters and David Davidson are ushered out of the room.
"Finally," Queen Eliza exclaims. "Hello ladies, and welcome to The Selection. Believe it or not, just twenty four short years ago I was sitting here in the very same situation you were. I am sure you were not alive to see my selection, but it was very challenging and rewarding. You may have researched this process for school, or maybe watched international selections, but I will till give you an overview of how this one will work.
First, we have the first impression rounds, and that takes place this first week. William will most likely send home between 5-10 girls in this stage.
Second, we have the first date rounds. These take place over a course of five weeks. William will have a date with each of you, and more if he pleases, then send home girls he doesn't feel a connection or chemistry with. This ends up being about 15-20 girls.
Third, we have the dinner rounds. This takes place over about a month We see if you can plan a fitting dinner for international guests. This is done in individually to see your work ethic, and hospitality. This part typically does not send people home, but helps you either build up your resume for a good Queen, or doesn't help it.
Fourth, we have the formal date rounds. William plans a more fancy date and he evaluates your adaptability, and your actions in a press situation. It takes place over about a month. This typically has 5-10 girls who will be asked to leave.
Fifth, we have the party rounds where we see if you can plan a good party for guests, and be good hosts. This is done over the time span of a month. This is done in small teams and is to evaluate time management, hospitality, how you work with others, and organization. This will have the remaining girls besides five eliminated.
Then it's a waiting game while Prince William decides who he would like as his wife.
Some general things are that Prince William can have as many dates with you as often as he likes, we have other events that happen over this course, we also provide optional schooling during the morning if you please, and we have many rooms and places for sports, music, and artistic activities. And with that, welcome to The Selection and good luck!"
A breath of relief goes through all of the selected all calm down, including myself. Small chatter starts up with girls around me, so I guess I should do the same.
"Hi! I am Saige!" I say to Poppy and Summer.
"Hey, my name is Poppy."
"And I am Summer."
"It's so nice to meet you!" I respond going in for a small hug. I have always been the hugging type.
Slowly random girls get pulled away from the table with Prince William and slip into a side room. My mind runs crazy knowing if I messed this up I could be out for good.
I draw my attention to my salad, eating it slowly and calmly.
Just my luck Prince William himself walks right over to me and offers his arm.
"Hello Miss Saige, care to accompany me to the other room for a bit?"
author note:
hey everyone! thank you so much for reading this book it means so much to me! I have loved the selection series for longer than I would like to admit... and I love writing too so this is a cool way I can do both. I am thinking about having multiple endings or maybe different POV's, anyone hate that idea?!? I do have a slower plot line but that's mostly because I write shortish chapters, I will go back and edit my chapters, then republish them, so sometimes you might get updates when I really haven't updated. sorry!
