Chapter 22

Chapter 22: A New World

            A blink of an eye and it was now the year 2005. The date: October 25. The head moved and saw the TV with the breaking news saying ‘Biggest Virus of the Year since the New York Blackout in 2003’. The man was on his bed and right beside him was a text from Lane saying that Club Penguin shut down. At the same time, the TV showing how the virus spread through the internet. It crashed every site, deleating Data. The man saw his ID card and had the name ‘Christopher Trent --- Programmer/Moderator ’. He threw it to the wall and yelled in anger. So the person here is Gary in his alternate universe --- an ordinary man who got fired after years of development, aged 25, graduated from University and lost his job after a year. Chris looks like Gary’s human version in the normal world. Chris went to his car and drove to the New Horizons Building in Canada. In the radio, he can hear the news about Club Penguin and it wasn’t very good.

            “Club Penguin, a website that was launched yesterday, created the biggest virus ever since 2003. The 3 co-founders are now being charged and arrested for this incident…”

            “Shut up!” said Christopher.

            Chris parked his car and entered the building. He went to his workstation and packed his things. There, he can hear all the other workers feeling upset about it and confused at the same time.

            “How is this possible?” asked Alicia. “I thought we were ready for the launch and now it’s all a big flop!”.

            Alicia has black long hair, cat-eyes, black reading glasses, a green dress with a white blazer and black heals.

            Chris carried his box and saw all the other workers crying, in anger and confused. He then decided to go to her but then was called to the meeting room along with the other workers. There, they see Lane Merrifield, Lance Priebe and Dave Krysko (The 3 Co-founders).

            “I know that things haven’t went well with the Launch but it turns out, Club Penguin will be shutting down” said Lane.

            “This is ********” said one worker. “We just started!”

            “I know this is short notice but after the huge crash and you read the reports, there is nothing we can do” said Lance.

            “But I thought the Link would…” said Alicia.

            “It turns out the Link was nothing!” said Lane. “It didn’t develop any ability to help… and so did our systems”.

            “I’m sorry but New Horizons is being sold for a new company to take its name” said Dave. “I’m sad to say, but you’re all fired… and so are we”.

            “But no need to panic, us three are talking the fault and not you so you guys still have a clean slate” said Lane

            Everyone left and returned to packing and going home. When Christopher went out, he can see Alicia on front of her parents and they aren’t happy.

            “We told you that this is a bad future for you” said Alicia’s Mum. “And now look what happened to you! You have failed us!”

            “I’m sorry but its…” said Alicia.

            “No buts! We have warned you! You are now kicked out of the house till you can find a menial job!” said Alicia’s Dad.
