I hadn't seen Mel except in class, and when I would glance in her direction, she would doodle in her notebook. I missed her being a pain in the ass. After class, I caught up with her.

"Don't worry; I'm not stalking you," Mel reassured me.

"What? Oh, that? Psh, I was having a moment," I said casually.

She gave me a confused look.

"Look, I may or may not, somewhat, kind of miss you," I mentioned.

Her expression changed to surprise. "You missed me?" Mel questioned slyly.

"What? No, the hospital must have done something to your mental faculties," I answered.

A smile formed upon her lips. "It's okay. I missed your sarcasm, too," Mel said, smiling.

I smiled, then asked, "Hungry?"

"Yes. Can we go to Kate's bakery?" Mel asked me.

"You read my mind," I said, leaning close to her face with a slight smile.

"Great," Mel said as she grabbed my arm and dragged me behind her. Oh, dear God, why couldn't I leave her alone?

We walked into Kate's bakery and ordered, then sat down and ate our food. I watched her as she dove right in, savoring every bite.

"That good?" I asked curiously.

"Food is life," Mel said as continued to munch away.

"Can't argue with that logic," I said as I continued to eat.

"Okay, now that we know we both have a love of food in common, tell me a little of yourself," Mel said.

"There's not much to tell. I mean, it's not like I'm in hiding or anything. My family is pretty well known, and I am half of the double troubles," I said, finishing my sandwich.

"Okay, I'll tell you a bit about me," she started.

"Wait. Is this a sad story because I don't do sad?" I asked, interrupting her.

"Define sad?" Mel asked with a look.

"You know my parents died; I have no one. People bullied me, blah, blah, blah. You know, a sad story," I answered.

"Well, my parents died," Mel said. Shit. "But they died after I was born. So, I never knew them. My aunt raised me. People never bullied me, although my ex is a complete dick."

"Knew that. What else?" I asked.

"And I had the most amazing kiss ever from this guy at prom," she grinned.

I looked at her. "And we're back to the way things were."

She grinned, and I rolled my eyes. Yep, she's back.

We went to the homecoming dance. God knows why? It always ends up a disaster. Except for this time, RJ made sure he had a date. The dude still has a hang-up over prom, psh whatever.

I was fine going stag, less drama. We arrived at the place, and everyone went in. Shawn and Drew showed off their dance moves with Mack and Liz. The others went off to dance, and I hit the table with the finger foods.

Hell, Mel even brought a date. Good for her. Now, I could eat in peace. At some point, RJ and Nik came to get something to drink with their partners. We bullshitted for a while; then, they noticed Mel's date getting handy with her.

"Oh, allow me," I said, handing RJ my plate as I rolled my eyes. Someone always has to interrupt my time with my food. I walked up, "I believe the lady told you to stop."
