Chapter 8

Drew's POV

You held Kylie's hand in a tight grip, but not to the point where it hurt her. She leaned her head against your shoulder, and you both acted like it was no big deal. It wasn't, to her atleast. You liked it, you liked being this close to her, having her this close to you. But she was just a friend, and you wanted to make sure it stayed that way. You walked under a silence, but not a awkward one. It was a peaceful silence and nothing needed to be said. After a while Kylie stopped. "This is where I live." she said, and pointed at a very big house. "Woah, you could be rich." you joked. Kylie chuckled. "Well I'm not." she said, and playfully hit your arm. "Ouch now I'm hurt." you joked and rubbed the spot on your arm that she hit. Kylie rolled her eyes. "You're such a dork." she said, laughing. You chuckled and nodded your head.

"More than you know." you answered her. She rolled her eyes again and pulled you in to a hug. You wrapped your arms around her and hugged her tight. "I'll see you on Monday." she whispered. You nodded your head. You wanted to ask for her number, but you were too shy. But what could possibly go wrong if you asked for it? Nothing really. After many 'buts' and 'what ifs' you figured that you would regret it if you didn't ask for her number. "Uhm.. Could I like.. Get your number?" you asked, and bit your lip. Kylie looked directly in your eyes and smiled at you. She pulled out a sharpie from her pocket. "Give me your hand." You gave her your hand and she scribbled down her number on it. She wrote 'Kylie ♡' beneath it and smiled widely at you. "There you go." she mumbled. You opened your mouth to say thank you, but she pulled you into a hug instead.

"Kylie!" you both flinched when the man called for her. Kylie looked at the man. And a sigh escaped her lips. "You really need to go, but I'll see you on Monday okay?"

You looked confused at her, but nodded your head and quickly left her property.

Kylie's POV

You watched Drew as he left, and when he no longer was in your sight, you turned around and walked towards the door. "Who was that boy?" your father sternly asked. "Dad.. He's just a friend." You said. He grabbed your wrist and pulled you inside. "Didn't I tell you to keep a low profile, that means no friends!" he yelled, and you could feel his bad, alcohol breath. "Dad have you been drinking?" you calmly asked. This wasn't the first time your dad got wasted in front of you. "Kylie Elizabeth, that's none of your business." You rolled your eyes and got out of the grip he had around your wrist. "Dad, go get some rest." you begged. "Don't tell me what to do!" he yelled. You rolled your eyes. "Dad you're an adult so why don't you fix your fucking life and start acting like one?! I'm always the one who takes care of you!" you shouted, not being able to hold back the anger that built up inside of you.

Seconds later you felt your cheek burning, he had slapped you. Tears were welling up in your eyes, but you fought back the tears and bit your lip. "You're an ass." you hissed, before running up to your room. You locked the door and laid down on your back. You put your head on your pillow and looked up at the ceiling. No wonder your mom left your dad. He wasn't exactly affectionate. Your dad had an unordinary job. He worked as a hacker, for a gang that payed your dad a huge amount of money for hacking things, and getting the information they needed. Your dad was a man that were the perfect husband. He loves kids, he's loyal, he can cook, he has a well payed job, and he's caring. But the thing about him is that he was unhappy. Your mother left him last year, which made him devastated. It turned out that she had a affair with your dad's best friend. Your dad completely lost it, and moved as far away from your mother as possible. And you've moved around ever since that, because your dad can't settle down. He needs change and variation. And besides, he can't stay at one place for too long, because people might find him. Ever since your mom left him, he has changed. He got drunk every night, cried himself to sleep every night, and hit you whenever he felt like letting out his anger. He drank to take all the pain away, and to be honest you didn't believe that your dad would ever be able to become the man he used to be. You carefully touched your bruises with your fingertips and bit your lip because of the pain. You couldn't blame your dad, he was heartbroken. And somewhere deep down, he's still the dad you know and love. A sigh escaped your lips and you closed your eyes. The scene from when your parents fought for the last time played inside your head.

*Flashback*

"How could you Liz? I love you with all my heart, how could you do that to me?!" your dad yelled. Your mother flinched and bit her lip. "Kevin.." she whispered. He shook his head. "No, don't fucking sugarcoat it, tell me!" he spat. She sighed and looked into his eyes. "Kevin.. Things haven't exactly been working out for us." she started. "Your work is taking over your life. You're always at work, doing stuff that could get yourself in major trouble. I haven't even met the guys you work for!" your mother outburst. "Liz you know that I'm not allowed to tell you things. It could put you in danger." he answered. "But you're always at work, and we can't do anything because you're always on your computer doing god knows what!" she said, with her voice raised. "I'm doing it for us Liz! For you, and for Kylie!"

She shook her head. "Kevin I'm sorry, but this has to end right now. I'm taking Kylie with me." She said, as she walked towards your bedroom door. You sat on your floor, trying to block out the sound of their voices. You didn't want to listen to their argument. "Hell no you're not. I already lost you and I'm not losing Kylie too." He said and stopped her from opening the door to your room. She looked into his eyes and sighed. "I'm picking up my things tomorrow. Goodnight Kevin." And with that said she left the house. You heard your dad punch the wall, as he screamed in frustration. He opened the door to your room, and he found you on the floor, crying. "Did mom left?" you asked, still in shock because of what you just heard. "Yeah, come here." he mumbled, and sat down next to you. He pulled you into his arms. "We'll be fine." he whispered, as he held you while you cried. He tried to be strong in front of you, because you could tell that he fought back his tears. You sat up and looked into your dad's eyes. "Dad.. It's okay not to be okay. It's okay if you want to cry." You whispered. He just smiled at you. "Thank you Kyls."

*End of flashback*

You opened your eyes and wiped away the tears that streamed down your cheeks. You sat up and ran your fingers through your hair. "He's still the dad you love. It's not his fault." you told yourself. You stood up and examined yourself in the mirror. You didn't want your dad to notice that you've been crying. You walked out of your room, and got down to the living room. Your dad sat on the couch, with a bottle of beer in front of him, as he stared blankly out of the window. You sat down on the couch, and laid your head in your dad's lap. "I'm sorry." you whispered. He looked at you and carefully stroked your hair. "Yeah.. Me too." he whispered.

You just laid there for a while. He kept stroking your hair and both of you remained silent. You closed your eyes again. "I love you dad." you whispered. "I love you too Kyls." he whispered.
