Chapter Six

Dad stopped the car in front of our house and we hugged him bye before jumping out.

To my surprise he also got out.

"Girl's go to your room. I wanna talk to your mother." he said.

Dad walked in ahead of us ans we went upstairs.

I watched as Jennifer went to her room. I went to my room and opened and shut the door so everyone would think I went in my room.

I then went and sat on the stairs and listened to my parents talk.

"Lacy our girl's feel like their trapped in a war. They feel like they have to pick sides and that's just ridiculous." my dad said to my mom.

"What did you expect Eric? They aren't gonna act the same as they did before. I mean before we were together and now we aren't. It's a big change." mom said.

"Yes I know. It's also a big shock becuase they never knew we were having problems." dad said.

"Our daughters didn't need to know we were having problems. Them knowing that would have caused more problems and heartbreak than we have right now." mom said.

Jennifer came and sat down beside me.

I put my arm around her but didn't say anything.

So now both of us listened to our parents

"So what exactly did you tell them?" dad asked.

"I told them we are getting a divorce." mom said.

"That's all you told them?" dad asked.

Yes Eric that is all I told them." mom said.

"You need to tell them the truth Lacy." said dad.

"The girl's would hate me if I said that I was leaving you for someone else." mom said.

"They could never hate you. You are their mom. They love you." dad said.

"Do you hate me Eric?" mom asked.

"No I don't hate you. You are the mother of my children and the lady I fell in love with." dad said.

I removed my arm from around Jennifer and tiptoed a little more down the stairs.

Now I could see them.

Dad pulled mom into a hug and she hugged him back.

He kissed her on the cheek then pulled away.

It was then that he spotted me.

I quickly ran up the stairs and into my room before mom could see me.

"I am gonna go tell the girls bye." I heard dad say and I could tell from his voice being louder that he was coming up the stairs.

Dad came into my room carrying Jennifer.

He walked over and put Jennifer beside me on my bed.

"How much did you girl's hear?" he asked.

"Everything from war to mom leaving you for another man." I said.

He looked down a second then back at us again.

"I don't want you girl's to hate your mom. She didn't actually cheat on me." said dad.

"She didn't?" I asked.

He shook his head.

"No she didn't." dad said.

"So..." I said.

"She's been crushing on an employee for some time now. I kew it but I thought it was just a innocent crush. You know like how people have crushes on famous people innocent and not gonna go anywhere...well...she told me this morning that she wanted to be with him instead of me." said dad.

Jennifer wrapped her arms around dad in a hug.

"How could she?" Jennifer asked.

"You can't help who you fall in love with sweetie." said dad.

"Dad why are you defending her?" i asked.

"She is yalls mom I don't want yall turning against her." said dad.

"Who will I live with?" Jennifer asked dad.

"I don't know sweetheart. But don't worry about that just yet." said dad.

"Girl's it's time for bed." I heard mom say from the hallway.

She then walked into my room where all of us where.

"Night Eric." mom said.

"That's my cue to leave." said dad.

He hugged each of us and got up.

"Good night girls. I love yall." dad said.

He then got up.

"Good night Lacy." dad said.

She nodded and he left.

Mom came over and sat between me and Jennifer.

" I love you girl's so much. I would never do anything to hurt you." mom said.

I stood up.

"Oh really? So yout think leaving our dadfor another man and splitting our family up isn't hurting us?" I asked.

My moms eyes grew big.

"He told you that I was leaving him for someone else?" my mom asked.

"Don't even try and act like that's not why this is happening and by the way dad didn't tell us that. We heard you tell dad that." i said.

"You two were listening to you dad and I's private conversation?" mom asked.

"Yeah because that's the only way me and Jen will ever get an answers from you." I said.

Mom stood up.

"I would hug yall but I don't wanna get pushed away. Good night girls. I love yall." mom said and blew a kiss.

I rolled my eyes.

Our mom left my room and my sister scooted over to beside me.

I put my arm around her and hugged her close.

"We are gonna get throught this." I said and lay down and pulled her with me.

She lay on my arm and I ran my fingers through her hair.

"I love you sis." she said before drifting off to sleep.

"I love you too." I whispered and I too went to sleep.
