Chapter Eighteen

I walked down the road tears hitting the street with every step.

I didn't bother wiping them away because I knew more would replace them.

I took my phone out of my pocket and turned it on.

After twenty minutes I reached the gas station.

I wiped the tears away and opened the store door and walked in.

I took a shaky breath.

"Are you Okay?" a male voice asked.

I looked up and noticed it was the guy behind the counter that had asked me that.

I forced a smile.

"I will be." I said.

"What's wrong?" the guy asked.

"Family drama." I said.

"I know that feeling all too well. My parents got divorced six months ago." the guy said.

I walked over to the counter.

"Wow my parent's plan on getting...my parents are ending their relationship." I said.

"You can't say the word divorce huh? Yeah I couldn't for a while either. By the way my name is Chandler." said the guy.

"My name is Sadie." I said and wiped away a tear with my left hand and hel;d out my right hand.

He shook it and smiled.

"It's nice to mett you." he said and pulled his hand back.

"When did you find out?" Chandler asked me.

"Two days ago. That is making things hard but right now I'm upset with my sister." I said.

"What happened?" Chandler asked.

"My sister was acting needy for my sake when the truth is she doesn't need me at all." I said.

"Your dependant huh? Yeah i am too but I try and act independant around anyone other than family." said Chandler.

"She's my little sister though. It makes me feel so pathetic." I said.

"Don't feel that way everyone wants to feel needed.

"I never knew she was acting and she's been acting for a year. It hurts ad makes me feel like an idiot at the same time." I said.

"I can tell you aren't an idiot. Your a very pretty young lady. Wipe away your tears sweetheart." said Chandler.

I blushed at the word sweetheart.

"I'm sorry about the sweetheart deal. I have a little sister who I've pratically raised and when she's upset I call her sweetheart. I guess that word kinda burned itself into my head." said Chandler.

I laughed.

"I'm not offended." I said.

He smiled.

"My little sister is four. My mom left last year and sent divorce papers to my dad in the mail. My dad's a drunk and cusses like crazy but he's never lay a hand on me or my sister. I don't know what I would do if my sister was around. She means the world to me." sais Chandler.

"Wow. I am really close to my sister as well." I said.

"That's amazing." said Chandler.

"Thanks." I said with a smile.

"You're welcome." said Chandler.

"I'm gonna go get a drink. I'll be right back." I said.

"Okay." said Chandler with a smile.

I went and got a Apple Snapple drink and spearamint chewing gum then returned to the counter.

"That looks good I should try it." said Chandler pointing to my drink.

"It's like your eating an apple but you're drinking it." I said and laughed because of how funny that sounded.

Chandler smiled.

"You have a nice laugh." he said.

"Thanks." I said and I could tell I was blushing again.

"It's pretty dead in here." I said.

"Yeah. Most people come earlier in the day." said Chandler.

Then my phone started ringing.

I ignored it.

"You can answer it." said Chandler with a laugh.

"Okay. I'll be right back." I said and I walked out the door and answered my cell.

"Hey Daniel." I said.

"Baby you finally answered my call and...wait what's wrong?" Daniel asked.

"Does it sound like somethings wrong?" I asked.

"No but you never call me Daniel so what's wrong?" Daniel asked me.

"Why don't you go to my house and we can talk. I will be home in twenty minutes." I said and hung up.

I didn't have to act strong for Jennifer anymore.

I could sit on the couch at home in Daniel's arms and cry my eyes out if I wanted to.

I walked back in the storeand went to the counter.

"It's been great talking to you but I should get back home. I have some things to take care of." I said.

"Okay well...Can I get your number?...I like talking to you." said Chandler.

I smiled.

"Yeah sure. Cand I have a peice of paper and pen?" I asked.

Chandler went and got paper and a pen and handed it to me.

I wrote down my number and handed it all back to him.

"Thanks. I will text you now so you will have my number." said Chandler and he handed me my drink and chewing gum with one hand while texting me with the other.

My phone dinged.

I read the text.

It read : You are an amazing young girl. Don't ever forget it.

"Aww that's sweet." I said.

"I'll get the door for you." said Chandler and he left behind the counter and went and opened the door for me.

"Thank you for everything. It was nice meeting you." I said and gave Chandler a hug. I pulled back and smiled.

"It was great to meet you sadie have a great day." said Chandler.

"Hope you have a great day too." I said and walked away.

A few steps later I looked over my shoulder to see Chandler waving at me.

I turned around for a second and waved back before turning back around and heading home.
