6 months later

Humming the ending of Saiungoku Monogatari to herself, Shureii washed her dishes from her midday meal. It had been nearly half a year since Louis left and her peaceful life had resumed quite nicely. Although while he had been good company despite his overprotectiveness, she had to say that this quiet solitude was still her favorite.

Sitting back on her rocking chair, she nibbled on a chocolate chip cookie (she had managed to produce chocolate using the cocoa plants she planted). Half-way through her cookie, she closed her eyes, savoring the nice breeze and the sweet taste on her tongue.

Ah...it's about time I checked the laundry...

After finishing up the cookie, she dusted the crumbs off. However, just as she was about to head up the small hill where she usually hung up her laundry on her makeshift clothesline, the sound of horses drew her attention.

Horses?

Just as she finished that thought, she saw a group of about 10 horsemen with a carriage approaching her cottage.

Please don't tell me...

The man in the front with a red cape got off his horse and approached her.

It is...

When he reached her, she failed to notice his eyes widen briefly upon seeing her close up as he quickly regained his composure.

"Lady Shureii," He gave an elegant bow before continuing.

"I am the First Knight, Eduardo Eaglin. By the royal decree of His Majesty, King Vincent van Veldhuizen, we have come to escort you to the royal palace."

"A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lord Eduardo Eaglin."

She said with a small curtsy, trying to buy some time for herself.

Hmm...how to diffuse this situation...

"Might I inquire as to why I am being summoned?"

"His Majesty wishes to speak with you, concerning Lord Louis."

Sighing inwardly, Shureii resigned herself to her fate.

Really, why are reincarnation plots so predictable...

A small voice inside of her added not so helpfully: You did bring this upon yourself by saying Louis could come back...

Although she was slightly exasperated inside, she merely smiled.

"Do you mind waiting just a moment, so I could prepare a few things?"

"Not at all, milady."

Again with the milady nonsense...

With another inner sigh, she went in and grabbed her first aid kit and a few snacks, putting them all in her handwoven bag.

That will do.

Locking the door, she looked at her laundry floating on the hill. Glancing at the awaiting men, she let out her third sigh of the day.

I guess the laundry would have to wait...If I'm lucky, I'll be back before tomorrow.

As she entered the carriage, accepting Eduardo's offered hand, she noticed one particularly young soldier looking...no...staring...at her.

Eh?

Upon realizing that he was caught staring, the youth blushed and abruptly looked away. Seating herself on the plush cushions of the carriage, it was then she noticed that the other soldiers had been looking at her as well, just more discretely.

Sighing for the fourth time that day, she leaned heavily against the side of the carriage.

Who am I kidding...this is a freaking reincarnation story, there's no way I would be back by tomorrow...*sigh*... ... ...I really should stop sighing... .... .... .... .... .... .... *sssssiiiiigggghhhhh*
