Shureii was, quite simply put, tired.

She was tired from mending clothes for Yuki who was no longer shy and was as boisterous as any other little boy. She was tired from the last night's accomplishment of making another batch of medicine. She was tired from carrying up the especially large load of laundry up the hill (never mind the fact that she had been the one to refuse Eiji's help).

But all those were besides the main point. She was especially tired from her various attempts to stop the fight between the two hot-blooded males before eventually running between the two, shocking the males who tripped over themselves in order to not hurt her.

Thus, it was with no veiled annoyance that she glared at the two males sitting sheepishly before her.

"As much as I am grateful you both were kind enough to worry about me, I would very much appreciate if you would actually listen to me."

Her voice was not raised but they could hear exactly how she felt. Annoyed.

"Sorry." They said in sync.

For that moment they forgot their instant animosity. They had a common goal: appeasing the person they loved. Right now, that wouldn't prove to be easy, from the way she dexterously snapped the first aid kit close.

She sighed. There it was. The puppy-eye flinching and sadness, but with twice the power. Mou~This isn't fair. I can't stay angry at them...

"Mama..." Came a quiet voice from behind the door, drawing the attention of the three in the room. Yuki peeked out from the corner of the door, eyeing the stranger.

Immediately Shureii's anger, or what was left of it, dissipated as a gentle smile reserved particularly for her son came over her face.

"Come here, Yuki. Don't be shy."

Instantly the small boy all but flew into her arms, using her as his new hiding post as he scrutinized Louis.

Louis was frozen.

Mama? He just called her Mama...Then...her son?

He watched as Yuki was gently coaxed by Shureii to fully face the front. When that didn't work, Eiji got up to help, teasing him by poking him on the cheeks. Louis felt as though his whole world crashed down on him.

It couldn't be...it just can't! He can't--! She couldn't have--!

Hmm? Shureii had just noticed that Louis was oddly quiet. When she turned to face him, she was taken aback at the negative aura emitting from him.

"Shureii...child...him..." He was muttering with his head down.

E-Eh? She couldn't hear what he was saying, but could only understand that he was upset/depressed about something.

Eiji on the other hand, understood immediately what the problem was. Smirking, he moved closer to Shureii and Yuki, placing an arm around her.

"Eiji!" Shureii protested as she felt Yuki visibly tense, warning Eiji to go away.

Hearing her protest, Louis looked up. Shureii, catching sight of his movement, turned her attention back to him.

"L-Louis? What...What's wrong?" He looks so pained!

"Shureii..." He lifted his head and in his eyes was the most serious expression she had ever seen. With a greatly pained expression, he wretched out the next words. "Are..." He seemed to struggle with himself before continuing. "Are you happy?"

"Yes...?" Shureii answered uncertainly. She felt panic rise in her when she saw his form slump in utter dejection. W-What did I do wrong?!

"Ah...is that so..." He seemed to grow smaller and smaller. "Then it can't be helped..."

L-Louis? Shureii was increasingly getting worried by Louis' odd behavior.

"Louis, what is it?"

"Ah..." He lifted his head and gave a weak smile that didn't reach his eyes. "It's nothing. I'm glad you are happy."

Shureii fought the urge to shake the truth out of him. Ureshi jan nai!!!!!!!!! Why are you like this?!!!

Seeing how the stranger was far from being intimidating, Yuki decided to brave talking to him. Tapping Shureii, he whispered something to her. Nodding, she put him down with an encouraging smile. It was with hesitant steps he walked towards Louis.

"Um... It's nice to meet you." He said while shyly rocking back and forth.

Looking at the nervous child before him, Louis mustered up a proper smile. Somehow, he reminds me of my old self...

"It's nice to meet you too." He said, offering a hand to him.

After another confirming nod from Shureii, Yuki put his hand into his, looking up curiously at him, unsure of what to do next. Louis smiled patiently (even though his eyes still held traces of sadness) and gently shook his hand.

"I'm Louis."

Yuki's eyes brightened as he answered albeit a bit stutteringly.

"M-My name is Yuki. Mama gave me that name..."

Introducing himself always brought happiness to him as it reminded him that he had a name and that Shureii was his mom.

"That's nice. Shureii is a wonderful mother isn't she?" Louis said, before immediately berating himself for inflicting pain to himself via that statement.

"Mm!"

Yuki nodded enthusiastically, running back to Shureii and hugging her tightly.

"Mama's the best mama in the whole wide world!! I don't need anyone other than Mama!!"

"What about your father?"

At this Yuki tilted his head in confusion.

"Do you mean a Papa? But...I don't have a Papa..."

... ... ... (that awkward moment of silence.)

Louis's common sense returned and he realized his huge misunderstanding. There was no way a child around his age could be biologically Shureii's.

Shureii realized what had been going on from the way Louis' face turned red in a way it hadn't ever since he had spent time in her cottage recovering. Eiji's reaction of finding the ceiling very interesting verified her suspicions.

Oh Kami...I can't believe these two!!!!! Shureii had had enough. Pushing the two out the door--a feat that was quite amazing with the difference between hers and their physiques--she stood holding the door with a smile that seemed all too polite.

"I'm sorry, but you are too tall for my small cottage. Please, it would be more comfortable for you to spend the night in the tent pitched outside. Don't worry. It is very comfortable. If not, please feel free to return to your respective homes."

Both males were wise enough to keep their mouths shut even though both of them had spent nights in the cottage enough to know that the cottage was big enough to accommodate them.

"Well then, I bid you goodnight."

With that the two were left outside the cottage, staring at the unyielding door.

They thought in sync.
