The hunting team was not expected to return until the next day, a fact Shureii never appreciated more than that night. Even though she knew she couldn't do anything, she was plagued with anxious thoughts. Had Yuki been there, he would've noticed something was wrong with her and that was the last thing she wanted.

Her encounter with the two strangers had left her with a great sense of discomfort. Although she had tried to shrug off her feelings, her paranoia (stemming from that night) had resurfaced.

Idiot.

She mentally slapped herself, recalling how the cloaked man had reacted to her. Although neither of the two strangers had worn anything to indicate anything other than middle class travelers, upon closer inspection, Shureii could tell they were no ordinary people.

The first hint had been the way the merchant had addressed the cloaked man. When he had spoken it was done in a way that showed true respect rather than the usual customer politeness he offered to all. That was the first warning sign.

When Shureii had a closer look at the injured man, she noticed that apart from his wounds, his overall appearance was a healthy and fit one, which, in and of itself was not out of ordinary. However Shureii knew from the lack of scars and calluses and elegantly groomed features that he was no mere traveler or even a low noble.

Moreover, the cloaked companion that had silently watched her as she wormed exuded a natural aura of power and intimidation that she could only compare to those she felt from the high ranking warriors when she passed by the training grounds during her Advisor years in the Veldhuizen palace.

Now that she looked back at her actions, she realized that they were most likely counterproductive.

I should have just accepted the money like any ordinary person.

Although she was not certain of her suspicions, Shureii couldn't help but worry.

Somehow in the midst of her thoughts, she drifted off to sleep.

In the middle of the night, Shureii found herself wide awake.

Again.

She got up, walking to the kitchen where she poured herself some water.

Again...it was that dream...I still can't remember its content but...

Setting down the cup, she glanced at the drawer where she had put the gold coin.

I need to be wary of the strangers. I wasn't wrong. They are somehow linked to the dream...

"Mother, I'm back!" A bright voice called out from the front door.

Making her way to the door, Shureii opened it to reveal the heterochromatic youth who smiled down at her, his share of the hunt piled up behind him.

"Welcome back."

Her expression turned soft as some of the tension she didn't even know she had accumulated from yesterday's lack of sleep and worries leftovers her upon seeing the bright expression of her son.

"Oh, and..."

Rummaging his sack, Yuki pulled out something. Rubbing the back of his head, he showed the slightest characteristics of shyness.

"Um...it is a bit early, but I saw these on the trip. And the flowers won't last until next week when Mother's Day is..."

Looking at the offered bunch of flowers, Shureii recognized them as the same types as the ones Yuki had shown her when they first met. Suddenly all worry and tension left her completely.

Yuki...

Yuki was taken by surprise when instead of accepting the flowers, Shureii wrapped her arms around him. She heard his awkward squawk from the unexpected hug and couldn't help but giggle, further confusing the poor youth.

Ah, my little Yuki...you haven't changed. Shureii smiled into the hug. Although you are already larger than me, you are still as kindhearted and sweet as ever.

"Thank you, Yuki. You're the best son I could ever ask for."

"Eh?" Came the intelligent reply of the still confused Yuki.

For a while he stared dumbly down at her, his hands (with the bouquet) stuck in the uplifted manner they had been ever since Shureii had taken him by surprise. Then, when he registered her words, he lost the dumbstruck, confused look and began to smile.

She was right. There were some aspects in which he hadn't changed at all. For example, he never grew out of being insanely happy every time he was complimented by Shureii. Happily hugging her back, he grinned.

"That's because I have the best mother."

Here she burst out laughing. Caught up in the mood, Yuki also laughed.

Calming down, Shureii pulled away. Looking at the flowers with a much more relaxed expression, she smiled.

In front of her, Yuki stood with a happy grin on his face. He still wasn't sure as to what exactly happened, but all that mattered was that she liked the flowers and was happy.

"Come on. Let's cook up something to eat with the meat you brought back."

Hearing the small cheer Yuki gave, Shureii felt her heart warm up.

For now, I should put aside my worries. After all, all I need is Yuki. Even if something goes wrong and I cannot escape my fate, if he is safe, it is alright. As long as he's safe that's all that matters.
