Forcing a (nearly) natural smile on her face, Shureii spoke gently to the crown prince.

"Eugene, why don't you play with Yuki for a bit?"

Glancing over to where Yuki stood with the bunny in his hands, the crown prince pondered for a bit. He looked from Shureii to Yuki, torn. The final decision making push came in the unexpected form of Yuki who walked over to where Eugene stood hugging Shureii.

"I don't wanna share my mama." He stated bluntly, the same childish possessiveness in his stance as he looked at Eugene.

Immediately Eugene was on the defensive. Even though he had been sourly forced to recognize Shureii as Yuki's mother before, he now had a genuine reason to also call her mother.

Yuki continued.

"But...I've never had a brother before."

Eugene grew less defensive, looking at Yuki who tilted his head as he obviously went through a serious thinking process.

"Mama said I should take care of people younger than me....and you are nice..."

More thinking...then...

"Since Mama was mine first, that makes you younger...That means you are my younger brother!!

Reaching out to his self-proclaimed "younger brother" while cradling the bunny in the crook of his free arm, Yuki smiled.

"Let's play!!"

His eyes brightening in the same epiphanic light that was lit in the other boy's eyes, Eugene nodded. His frenemy had become a big older brother! That meant....he had been deemed worthy enough to have Shureii as his mother as long as he acknowledged the fact that Shureii was first Yuki's mom.

Seeing the two getting along with each other as they tested out calling each other "brother!" or "older brother!" or "younger brother!" Shureii felt a sinking feeling in her stomach.

Ah, dear Yuki...that reasoning was...so...wrong...The crown prince is actually older than you by a month, dear. And... Eugene ... why did you look like you received a divine revelation when you heard Yuki's words?

Worst of all...

She was torn between her moe cheering and heartfelt despair when she saw the adorable children sync in calling each other "brothers" then laugh together.

They are so happy!! How can I break the news to them that I have never heard of this supposed marriage until now?!?!?! You stupid King! If you cause me to make them become teary-eyed...You. Are. Dead.

Storming through the palace corridors, it did not take Shureii too long before she arrived at the usual meeting place with the King.

"Lady Shureii, what a pleasant surprise."

The King greeted mildly, his tone belying the inexplicable happiness he felt at having her seek him out first for the first time. However--as much as he would like to think so--he knew she did not come just to meet with him.

His instincts were (sadly) right. When she lifted her face to look at him after the customary curtsy, he could practically feel the waves suppressed anger coming off of her.

"Your Excellency, may I have a word with you?"

Ah...she used "Your Excellency"...Koenrad noted with well-concealed amusement. The little kitten is angry...

"Of course."

Walking up to his desk, Shureii went right to the point.

"Please stop the rumor."
